Remain is the only option for the UK. The EU is not anxious for the divorce bill and now making plans for the exit without a deal. The UK economy would be devastated, and it is already in a parlous state with no assets after 40 years of privatisation piggery. On which metric parlous? Edited by chris123 (20 Oct 2018 5.54pm)

A tiny majority of the country voted to leave and it has been proved that the information they were given was lies. There was no plan or honest discussion of what leave meant. Just as the case made for war was lies and there was no plan for what happened afterwards. It is important to guard against a tyranny of the majority. What are you Brexiters afraid of, a second referendum just give the Brexiters a chance to prove that people know what it it actually involves and they will still vote leave...

It's interesting to note that Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell ignored a march that attracted more people than today's when they were in government but are now demanding that this government pays attention to and acts on this one. I'm glad to say that I opposed Blair then and I oppose him now. I, at least, am consistent.

It seems democracy allows people to reconsider their views occasionally. Especially when the circumstances change or new information comes to light. Amazingly ‘the will of the people’ proves to be a moving target, who’d a thought it?

Well, an EU referendum every 40 years is the emerging pattern which seems reasonable.

For those of you that want another vote, what happens if remain wins? Do we then do another vote as its 1-1 in voting results or should we then accept the result because it was the result you wanted?

I could go on but despite the mass ranks on the remain side the people voted to leave. I think because the Brexit camp had a simple message which was take back control of our country. What was the remain message? Project fear. The Remain camp completely failed to put across the positive benefits of staying in the EU. British people don't like being threaten and that was the basis of the Remain campaign a major tactical error. I could have put a better case for staying in it was pathetic. As for the argument that we have to stay in to influence the EU well that one died when Merkel sent Cameron away with a flea in his ear and gave him nothing. Where was our influence? We voted to leave because the Remain campaign was a shambles and they assumed we would vote to stay out of fear and because we are good little drones. Never underestimate the obstinacy of the British people just ask Hitler and Napoleon. Even today I still have not heard a coherent message from Remainers as to why staying would be good for Britain, it is still all project fear they still haven't learned you have to change the message.

You say project fear. I say I lost my job as a result of the vote very soon after it happened. There have been and will be many more as we swap well paying jobs for menial ones.

That just tells me the remain argument, which is still as valid today if not more was based on facts and evidence about the economic implications but perhaps that seems not a sexy enough reason to vote. The leave campaign was based on scaremongering over immigration, that the EU were our enemy, we were being mugged off and tapping into people's nostaligic and nationalistic sentiments. Farage with his big posters of immigration queues in Hungary and the bus with 350m written on the side. All now known to be complete crap but no ramifications. I suppose the man in the street is easily pursuaded by this
