I've explained this before. All this is annoying because, as I've said, I do actually wear masks out of respect for rules that people are unreasonably expected to enforce. But I'll once again deal with the NHS point. Firstly and importantly the statistics have shown no evidence that wearing masks made or make any difference at all....To me if you think about how they are worn and the false sense of security they give that makes sense. Secondly we are not here to 'protect the NHS'.....That's completely upside down. It's actually brainwashed upside down thinking. The NHS is funded by the vast majority of the taxpayer for the direct purpose of providing free....at the point of delivery...national healthcare. It's not there so that people have to live a presubscribed lifestyle dictated to them by self righteous berks. If it needs extra funding or expansion to provide that then that's the job of the elected government. Before the vaccines the government showed that they were prepared to do that with the Nightingale hospitals....They have no future plans for that I've heard of....as stated there are only 7300 current hospitalisations If you are going to criticise people for their personal healthcare decisions then there is a very long queue of people who enjoy a drink, burgers and fags who would be quite happy to show you some fingers and inform you on which stop you can get off. If you are going to wag your finger for virtual points then try it with the heart attack/stroke victims from lifestyles choices and smoking/drinking induced cancers. They are far more than covid could ever provide beds for. Most of those are down to lifestyle choices that the individuals undertook. Basically take a run and jump off the nearest swimming pool plank.

Maybe, but the number in hospital with it has decreased by 3/4, thus relieving the pressure on the NHS. Daily deaths have also declined substantially. They are the true measures. Not the infection rate.

Edited by Stirlingsays (08 Dec 2021 10.08pm) This is a seriously warped viewpoint. To conflate trying to contain and manage a pandemic with people's lifestyle choices is simply ridiculous. Encouraging healthy eating and giving up cigarettes is a long term and, probably never ending, task for government and the NHS. It hasn't just arrived unexpectedly, and it cannot be managed by simple control measures and vaccines. The point about "protecting the NHS" is precisely because it is tasked to provide free healthcare at the point of delivery. If it cannot do that because it is being overloaded, then taking simple steps and vaccines is in our own interests. Those who opt out of trying to help, also opt out of being part of us, and must expect to be treated differently. Not by the NHS. They are blind to selfish behaviour. They must expect to be treated differently by us. No-one is going to force a life-style choice on you. You can avoid vaccines and masks by staying at home. Mix with us, and we will soon demand you join in the effort, or go isolate again. It's coming.

It provides limited free healthcare, after it’s been paid for through taxes.

Christ. If you think the point of a functioning mask is to prevent ALL particles getting through, you need to do some more reading. Also – Scared? Personally I couldn't give a rats ass if I get COVID these days based on the high likelihood any infection will be mild or asymptomatic. The reason I choose to wear a mask is mainly for others, the Eastern Cultural approach – not everyone has the ability to work from home or still earn if they're forced to stay home for 10 days. Sometimes not being a selfish, grandstanding tool benefits others so they don't lose their job or fail to pay the heating bill. And yes, FFP2 masks are nowhere near as efficient as N95s, but they're not that accessible to the everyday population are they? Further, the point of masks that offer at least some protection, is to at least offer some protection. Not to act as a vacuum. It's about reducing the amount of viral load that does get through rather than eliminating it completely, which is impossible unless you're planning on wearing a scuba mask and a tank of oxygen. N95 masks are excellent but you can't wear them for long periods of time as they do, in fact, start to limit airflow to the point of becoming problematic. Further, even they will let through silica, just in small enough amounts not to be an issue in whatever test they use to determine regs. Also – I may be wrong as I haven't got the time to trawl back through this thread, but didn't you rail against the vaccine then end up taking it? I'd rather read a qualified quantitive study than sully my brain with unobjective rants. So don't be a selfish moron, understand the detail, be objective and follow the science. You claimed "New study out – FFP2, medical and 3+ layer masks significantly reduce the chance of getting COVID". And then went on to call people morons etc. That is simply not true. Masks, supposedly, are to protect others. They do not reduce the chance of getting Covid19, or any virus for that matter. They may, possibly, reduce the chance of spreading a virus, but even that can be questioned by observing our neighbour's rates of infection/mask wearing. I think it is you who needs to read up on masks/respirators. FFP2 and N95 are equivalents. The difference being, 'FFP' (Filtering Face Piece) is a European standard, whilst 'N' (NIOSH) is a U.S. standard. They filter 94% and 95% respectively. Here you state "FFP2 masks are nowhere near as efficient as N95" as fact, but it's also untrue. Both of these respirators are for dust only, not gasses or odours, both of which might be larger in size to viruses. You can also wear these respirators for as long as you like. Yes, they may get clogged up with dust or moisture in certain conditions, making breathing laborious, but there is no limit to the time usage other than preference. If you want better protection against the surrounding air that you breathe, but don't wish to go full bio-hazard suit, get FFP3. Which is available in this country. If you wanna all Yankee, get N100. And, please, do some trawling, or take your own advice.....

Prescriptions are all free in Scotland. Dentists and opticians are much cheaper too. That will probably continue until and if independence happens when the subsidies end.
