Im not saying he"s had a great goal scoring season boz, but does his bit on the rest of the pitch and people constantly slagging him off isn"t going to help his confidence one bit, also don"t think the way we cross the ball is helping his style of play, was there saturday and seems every ball into the box seems like a half hearted chip with no power, where benteke is more suited to getting his head on a ball blasted in with power! Got a feeling he"s going to score a few in next games, once one goes in, the confidence will return !

I really hope you're right.

He maybe doing his bit everywhere else, collectively he's doing someone else's job but who's going to put them away proud that's what im worried about mate.

I no McArthur and Andros probably can do the job, it's just our luck nearly every chance is falling to tekkers. But his head is that far up his backside he can't get it out and it could be the only chance we're going get to change anything round if Sorloth's injury isn't sorted out quickly.

We could pay for it dearly that's how it could turn out to be. I just don't want us to come down we belong in the Premier league not the championship.

INteresting to note that Martinez the Belgium manager on goals on Sunday said that CB played very well on Saturday especially in the first half in his view he caused the Liverpool defence no end of problems. He also said that he is a goal scorer and will score more than he misses.
Both he and Roy recognise the valve of his performances leading the line and we have no one else to do that job as well as him at the moment. He has a great influence in our play. OK so he is not scoring goals at the moment but that can change in an instant. If on average according to Martinez he will score more than he misses then we are in for a good end of the season. It is not him that is solely responsible for us not being clear of relegation plenty of other players have not done the job expected of them at critical times during the season. He needs and deserves our support he is more likely to score with us the fans backing him than constantly moaning about his lack of goal scoring.

It sound's and look's horrible to hear or read, it could work out like that. Monster.

All of us echo that sentiment.

If its a confidence thing, which has been said for most of the season, then he shouldnt be playing in any of the last 6 matches...i would rather have someone like RLC play up front

RLC will be unable to lead the line as well as CB and has never been considered a striker. That choice in my view would just be a shot in the dark, if you will pardon the pun. I do agree that a spell on the bench may help but with only 6 games left at this stage of the season it will not help us.

Has any team ever stayed up with less goals from open play?
Sako has only started a few games.
Amazing that we aren’t properly f*cked already.

Yep - its not great but then again of the strikers in the Premier League only Murray (11 - most if his are penalties) Vardy (15) and Mahrez (10) outside of the top six clubs have managed 10 goals this season. We are not too different in that respect. At our level only Arnautovic (9)is anywhere near that. Most strikers are around 6 or so.

Until this season, Christian, over five previous seasons in the Premier was averaging something like a goal every 2.5 games, including last season with Palace. It's difficult to know quite what has gone wrong this season. I suspect it's primarily a catastrophic loss of confidence. In that respect, the penalty miss against Bournemouth must surely have been massively significant. His all round play and contribution, other than goals scored, is OK. In goal scoring terms, he is a shadow of the player he was last season.

He will be be as aware as everyone else that his lack of goals has been one of the main reasons why we are not at least 6-8 points better off. Quite what Roy Hodgson does about this I'm not sure as for the Bournemouth game at least, Benteke remains his only feasible striking option. I suppose he he has little option but to do what he can to support Christian in training, perhaps try a sports psychologist (if that hasn't already been tried) and ensure that his team mates give him all the encouragement possible.

There can surely be no doubt that if someone could wave a magic wand and suddenly return Christian to his old goal scoring form that our critical last six games would be a whole lot easier to negotiate. And as Palace fans, the best thing we can do is to give him as much support as possible.

One last comment - I surely can't be the only Palace fan to note the irony of Christian not scoring against his old club last Saturday, when in the same cicumstances an ex-Palace striker would surely be guaranteed to score!

Yes - I think the anguish on his face was pretty obvious on Saturday after those misses. I did appreciate how Jimmy Mac gave him encouragement afterwards.

Martinez would only give you a fake artificial opionion wouldn't he? His interest is not in proper punditry, it is supporting "his" player.
Stats have shown Benteke has had 22 big chances and scored 2. My maths is reasonable enough to calculate that is less then 10 percent, nowhere near more then 50!

Yeah, we should be praising him for being in the epl at all with a chance of staying up, could be doing a sunderland without him last season!

Your arguments aren’t exactly what you would call water tight are they. We would have got the exact same return if we had Sunderland’s main striker last season. Defoe got 15 PL goals as did Benteke and he’s got double what Benteke has got this season so far. Stop trying to defend Benteke’s lack of goals with stupid arguments that don’t stand up. He’s been an abject failure this year and that’s that.

Ultimately its pointless going round in circles criticising or defending him, when the club recruitment has left us with no alternative, so he will be playing the next match.
