God the moralising over a milkshake is enough to make you sick - every single election campaign an incident like this happens, and every single election campaign the tabloids tell you 'IT COULD HAVE BEEN ACID', and unless I'm forgetting something, it never has been. Farage was egged in 2017 and milkshaked in 2019, and low and behold, it didn't escalate to any violence! So you condone throwing stuff at politicians? Yesterday it was a brick. Imagine if it had struck him on the temple and killed him. What would you say then?

Politics in this country has for some time focussed upon this abhorrent strategy - 'Are you miserable, full of hate and resentment? Don't worry, it's not your fault, it's someone else's'. Hence the prevalence of 'left-wing', 'social justice warrior' types now. Their counterparts have been provided less of a platform but I do fear their rise and we are seeing this in Europe. Politics has almost long forgotten about any focus upon running this nation or apparently others effectively and more so on rallying those being pushed further toward the bottom of socio-economic scale. 'Tis rhubarb. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but to me this argument completely ignores, or certainly downplays, a reality where the 'deal' for ordinary people has got considerably worse, and there are people knowingly responsible for that. So yeah, people ARE miserable and full of resentment, and in a lot of ways, it's not their fault - as you allude to, some people see the solutions in parties further to the right, others drift left, but we shouldn't ignore or downplay the reality that many ordinary people are justifiably unhappy and full of resentment.

I already said yesterday that I don't condone the 2nd incident with Farage, as the projectile looked like something that could cause damage, as opposed to a frothy banana drink.

No, that is the point EDN. I see it very much as a distraction strategy that deflects from the real reasons people are miserable and unhappy and encourages them to pursue these avenues, including vendetta, which serve them no good whatsoever - "rallying those being pushed further toward the bottom of socio-economic scale". By getting people to not focus inwardly on themselves you disempower them, then as they look externally you shift their focus away from where it should be.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

How have you deduced that from what I said? I'd react in a similar was to Prescott did, which I have no issue with. What I wouldn't do is pretend my life is at risk as a result.

A foundation set up following the murder of MP Jo Cox has said violence against election candidates "is an affront to democracy". Reform UK leader Nigel Farage had items thrown at him while he was in Barnsley on Tuesday, just days after he was covered in milkshake. Su Moore, CEO at the Jo Cox Foundation, said it was shocking and "completely unacceptable". "There is a place in all elections for robust debate, absolutely, but physical violence against candidates is an affront to democracy," she said. Mr Farage ducked for cover while on an open-top bus during a campaign visit to the South Yorkshire town. Photos show a takeaway cup being thrown, with two items missing Mr Farage while another hits the side of the bus. This kind of behaviour was a "really serious issue" which could lead to more extreme violence, Ms Moore said. South Yorkshire Police said on Wednesday morning a 28-year-old man had been charged with using threatening, abusive, insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear.

When you pretend to be thick, assuming you are pretending. That is a clear indication that you don't have a leg to stand on. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (12 Jun 2024 10.40am)

If a milkshake is being poured over me, there's not a chance it could be acid is there? That doesn't even make sense as a question.
