Just watched the highlights again. I’m not sure why Olise looked so miserable straight after he scored. No celebration and a face like thunder. Edited by XKudu (12 May 2024 9.55pm)

It's as if one is condoling with the other at a funeral.

Edited by XKudu (12 May 2024 9.55pm) My 3 theories re Olise: 1) He was still annoyed with himself for missing his first chance. The goal was more of a payback to himself than something to celebrate. 2) He's a high-IQ guy who's easily bored and enjoys all kinds of little mental games to surprise people. Does anyone remember when he was almost monosyllabic during one of his first postgame interviews – despite being a cut-up with Eze? 3) He and Eze have some sort of pregame understanding about what to do when one of them scores, and with MO it might have been to play ice-cold cool without looking cocky. The two of them are thick as thieves – really fun brothers. I wouldn't be shocked if they both remained loyal to Palace for another season just because of their friendship.

I hope you are right about the one more season.

He was frustrated missing the easier chance - It really shows the high standards he sets for himself that he didn't want to celebrate a great finish because he missed the 'sitter' of the two.

I've always been of the opinion that MO is just not a 'I wanna dance around and do summersaults if I score' kind of person. That's the end of my thoughts on the matter really. I'm inclined to see it as an 'each to their own' situation. If his character is slightly more thoughtful and brooding I don't see any need to scrutinise it nor dictate how I or anyone else thinks he should act. Not everyone enjoys wildly celebrating their ego so if he sees a goal scored as simply a job well done, and football is his job, then I'm content to just leave him to it. Hopefully he's doing it at Selhurst Park plus away stadia next season.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Almost unaware of them till he watched the highlights with some embarrassment. All passion I suppose. MO possibly more thoughtful and less passionate. Same results though.

Doesn't Olise have some elements of something like autism? Not sure where I heard that. I presume that's why he's not into high emotional displays. It's pretty common these days isn't it? I expect it helps him focus on his football.

Yep, I'm not impressed with Ahamada yet either, although it was Richard's mistake that caused his desperate run to try to compensate for it. An enjoyable game though, mainly down to the result and three great goals rather than our overall performance which was patchy at times today. The stream I managed to pickup had Darren Ambrose co-commentating and his obvious bias towards us made for an amusing sound track. One thing he said was how disappointed he was that all talk after our win over Man U was about how bad they were rather than how well Palace played. Legend. 'yet' is the key word here. I was at the game, we were sluggish, off the pace and still celebrating the Man U win for the first ten minutes - the turning point in our performance was Ahamada replacing Hughes, he gave us forward impetus because he can carry the ball forward at pace - he was bought last Jan as a box to box player to replace gallagher while Lokonga was deep lying to replace Kouyate. Ahamada was great until about the 40th minute when he did a couple of hair brained passes that lost possession. He was a Vieira buy under whom our recruitment improved drastically - there's a good player in there and we have the manager to bring it out - and first half saturday he didn't just play well he was the difference that put us on the offensive and not the defensive. Also Palace fans took up the entire side stand, from corner to corner, only the Chelseas andWesty Hams would do that previously, great atmosphere and I like the Wolves fans - hard core!

This is great to read. The one thing I would give Ahamada in the little I've seen him is that he almost immediately turns and heads straight towards the goal with the ball. That bit of desire and energy or forward thrust could surely be a real asset if managed properly. I know others have had their doubts and I am not going to rave about him just yet but I'd like to see Glasner introduce him and mould him for this team. That could well be wins all round.
