What a find OG has been. It is like I’m supporting a different team. I cannot believe how much better we are compared to just a few weeks ago. I dont want to get carried away but I’m actually looking forward to next season now. We have just ticked over for so long I’d forgotten how it feels to be positive.

I bet Liverpool are kicking themselves that they never looked at OG as Klopps replacement.

Well done to all involved in bringing him, Wharton and Munoz in. Genius.

Absolutely, A worry in the back of my mind is that a big club might try something if we end the season like this. I suspect Glasner will stick around and build something though. As long as we back his expectations he will be happy.
Let’s enjoy this ride as I feel next season will be unforgettable. Even if people work out our tactics it’s our energy as well they need to match!

Absolutely loving all the positive comments. Totally deserved.

I know I shouldn't get worked up about this, but big teams already have enough of an advantage without deliberate gamesmanship/cheating. I saw 3 obvious examples yesterday :

1. Guimaraes going down apparently 'badly injured' in about the 25th minute, giving time for Howe to call in the team for a tactical chat. Guimaraes gets up with no ill effects whatsoever. A coincidence that he did this within earshot of the Newcastle
bench ?
2. Continual haranguing of the ref on any contentious decision. I thought new rules were brought in about dissent.

3. Eze free kick in second half. Newcastle players in the wall moving their feet as the free kick was prepared, gaining about 1 to 2 feet on the marker laid down by the ref and then as Eze ran up another 1-2 feet. Clearly the new rule isn't being monitored properly - but I accept the refs have a lot to consider.

Classic Eddie Howe, turning gamesmanship into a cheating mentality .... that's why the victory last night was even more satisfying, some of their lot looked shocked at our ability to play them off the park!

No, but they would not be going down to League 1 either.

Possibly. Possibly not.

There seems to be a tendency to see thing in simple terms on the football threads.
Of course the manager has an impact, but the players kick the ball. They are the more important side of the equation.

This is all about an I told you so attitude regarding Roy Hodgson.
People will frame it how they want, but what is most important is that we have our two flair players available and the team reinvigorated.

Yes but Olise was rested for most of last night's game and we still put on an impressive show without him. That wouldn't have happened under previous managers.

So is your point that if Roy was still here and we’d had Eze and Olise available, We’d still have beaten Liverpool and played West Ham & Newcastle off the park?

I know, you're a 10% man.

However, don't look to the 2 flair players but to the journeymen squad fodder. Will Hughes as just one. New found quality and self belief. He's like a new signing.

I was never anti Roy. But when you see a team so comprehensively transformed with essentially the same players you have to say that OG represents more than 10% at this point.

Saw this on the newcastle forum:

"Their midfield were better than us. The albino ran the show, even against Bruno which just should not be.. but here we are."

That made me laugh! I guess Hughes can take that as a compliment.

On the whole the Newcastle forum were very complimentary of us.

Honestly I'm suprised how sh1t they were after all the media hype about their new ownership and everything and finishing top 4 last season - they look very average. Bruno Guimares was their only standout player...

A team is just that - including the management and backroom staff.
OG has got the players fit and given them a plan and a belief.
He trusts all of them to play their role on the pitch and that is what is working.
You can also be sure that everything is rosy behind the scenes and that makes for a happy camp.
It sort of reminds me of Dowie's first game in charge against Millwall. We lost 1-0 but you could immediately tell that he was having a positive effect and it was the most enjoyable defeat I have ever seen because I knew good times were ahead.

Have to disagree with this, particularly after the bizarre comment on my last post though I suspected prejudice behind it.

The vitriol thrown Roy's way is unwarranted IMHO, we should be very grateful to him. It was not working this season however and he looked to have run out of ideas to stop our rot and downward slide. This is football and a business at the end of the day.

Mateta/Edouard often looked completely isolated, the defence looked shaky, we did not move the ball well and could hardly muster scoring opportunities. Confidence, morale etc. looked at an all time low and this was reflected in the stands. Olise and Eze's individual brilliance was perhaps highlighted by how poor everything else was.

Glasner plays a completely different system with it's own style. Players have even been posting on social media as to how much they are enjoying it. Olise had very little impact after coming on yesterday in a team that played three days previously and was still missing Johnstone, Guehi, Doucoure, Lerma, Franca and started without him in the first instance. That's 6 players who we'd all expect to feature with all things equal. Players who'd been written off (including by me) such as JPM, Hughes and Clyne now look like star performers. Even the old Jeffrey helped make the second yesterday.

We overran and outplayed both WHU and Newcastle after winning at Anfield. Of the latter two, the first being Liverpool, one of those teams won a European Cup recently and the other was in the CL this season. Guardiola at City, Klopp at Liverpool, Emery at Villa, O'Neill at Wolves and Iraola at B'mouth are just a few recent examples of where managers can change teams.

The players kick the ball but their conditioning, tactics/instruction and morale will dictate the level at which they do so. There has been notable improvement in all the aforementioned. To suggest they just suddenly and coincidentally found form a few games after a new manager arrived with a whole new approach and there is no parallel between the two is a notion which is deliberately choosing to ignore the evidence for this happening.

All those 'hating' Hodgson need to give their heads a wobble however Glasner's arrival and impact has to be noted as it's clear to see. I've never seen a Palace team look so impressive and that's more than just a purple patch.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Up here in Geordie Land they are not happy. I on the other hand have had a v enjoyable 24 hours. They are an entitled bunch and I wouldn’t be surprised if Howe is moved on in the summer.

Excellent post Nick. I, Obviously, concur.

I'm not going to nit-pick as we are both very happy so I will respectfully disagree with this point.

Olise coming back has been important. The media focus on the 2 only starting 6 times and that has hurt us. However, other than that, OG is dealing with essentially the same side as RH. Last night no Doucoure, Lerma, Guehi, Johnston or Franca off the bench or Olise to start. And we were up against the form team, 8 places above us for a good reason, who thumped us 4-0 and who had 8 more days than us to prepare. Yet palace players described as "Championship at best" on this site were playing Champions League level. WHO ARE THEY?

That is coaching.

If we can keep our players, make a few sensible improvements and carry this form into next season, people will be talking about us as they are now talking about Villa.

You said you disagree, but then you’re not really disagreeing

Olise and Eze coming back has been important, but I do agree with all your points, it’s not the only factor, as I did state. As I said we seem sharper, more energy, we’re closing down and snapping in with the tackles, not letting teams have time on the ball and the likes of Andersen, JP, Hughes and Mitchell have seriously raised their games, as you say that’s all got to be down to coaching
