Yes, the difference is I neither want, need nor desire your respect. Believe it or not your blinkered opinions do little for me. It was you or your little friend that was actually asking me to respect you lol. est . If you dont mind me asking . How old are you ? you come across as a very spoilt little man child .

If you judge attacking threat as jogging up the pitch with the ball and little end product, sure ‘Some’. Defending was woeful (to be expected), and distribution was similarly off the pace. All very well driving forward but you have to actually be able to do something with it. He’s potential, raw, slight and needs time to adapt - the fee represents an investment - but the way fans have been bleating about him needing to be in the team like he’s some sort of second coming is totally ridiculous A point proven tonight It’s a game of opinions but I will add your comments sound a lot like what some people said about AJ, Zaha, Eze, Olise. For me he offers something we are lacking and only game time will sharpen his game management. Agreed he needs to improve but I saw a lot of potential there.

I do disagree that he should be starting games. Any offensive impetus is cancelled out and some by the lack of defensive awareness, pressing and leaving gaps all over the place for the opposition to exploit. Wharton is an example of someone at more or less the same age/development stage that is up to scratch, and is capable enough to start. Franca, not so much. Also - those players you mention - not comparable. Apart from Zaha they’d already demonstrated their quality one level down and were playing regularly at a much higher level than Franca. Zaha - more about his temperament, and he had pace and could beat a player. And score the odd goal. Edited by SW19 CPFC (12 Feb 2024 11.59pm)

Edited by SW19 CPFC (12 Feb 2024 11.59pm) Nice to see you've assessed a player after 1 game of him starting. I seem to remember Eze being a bit laxidasical with the tracking back with the odd defensive mistake also. Some young players need game time and the chance to be creative to succeed. They aren't all going to be be a Zaha. I can also guarantee that you wouldn't be so critical if he scored his shot.

Thought he did ok . In Roys rigid system you can see he is a bit lost on the defensive side but was trying to be in the right position when Chelsea had the ball which to be fair was for most of the game .

What he did do was carry the ball a long way up the pitch which is something we've missed since Zaha. It relieves pressure on the backline and allows the team to push up. I don't think anyone is arguing that he's the finished product as he's clearly not, but he needs to keep playing as he shows all the signs of being a top winger. Some fans wanted rid of Wilf and Bolasie early in the careers, but you can often tell with wingers if they have a chance. They need to have that self-confidence bordering on arrogance that they can change a game.

Only game time is going to improve Franca but I would argue that in our position we can’t afford to give him game time. It is Roy’s fault that he hasn’t had a lot more minutes in the team when we were not in a relegation battle but right now I wouldn’t have him anywhere near the starting 11 and especially not in the position he played in last night. Every team targets us with crosses already and that will just get worse with him playing. He had a couple of nice bursts of pace when he had the ball in acres of space but overall I thought he was really poor. I will repeat it is not the lads fault that Roy has hardly played him so he has no chance to get used to the league but for me I would leave him on the bench at Everton. Coleman would have a picnic with him. Edited by EddieMac (13 Feb 2024 7.47am)

With no other wingers available I think Roy has to play him. He got one of our only decent shots on target, he played JPM in and was the only player carrying any threat on the break. It is important to note that was only his seventh senior start, but what I noticed during the game was that he seemed to learn quickly. In the first half he tried to beat his man when there was a pass on. Second half he got his head up and found his teammates. It was noticeable that he seemed to earn his teammates trust as the game went on too. It's little things like this that suggest he may be quick to adapt. Like Eze and Olise when they arrived his defensive game needs work, but he wasn't signed to defend. To start your first game in such circumstances when you haven't started a game for eight or more months must be a huge weight on your shoulders and he seemed to carry it and didn't go missing. Wharton and Munoz have been playing regularly this season so of course it is easier for them to step in and that showed. In an ideal world he goes on loan to the Championship in January, gets regular game time and comes back for next season a more rounded player. As it is we need him now and he has to learn on the job. It could be the making of him.

+ He didnt give up, he picked the Chelsea players pocket(s) several times & came away with the ball, when the opponent already had the ball under control, in a kind of AWB way. Originally posted by taylors lovechild

He is very inexperienced and before signing for us he was mainly introduced from the bench at Flamengo. He did grow into the game and I suspect will benefit from the experience of being thrust into the PL limelight. A 'Learning curve' for Franca but he did enough to suggest that he could well prove to be a good purchase. Edited by Willo (13 Feb 2024 9.37am)
