Very pleased for Alan Bates - more deserving than many to be given an award.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

As I eluded to in my Cliff Richard comment, they throw a few celebs in and a worthy name the public recognise then it's bums up and snouts down into the trough for the great and the not so good. I just wonder how pleased Mr Bates will be. Spent years taking on the establishment, for which he deserves great credit, only to be knighted by it.
