He’d play for a draw in the boat race.

VAR must go. Awful.

On a separate topic, my personal assessment of Franca is that we won't see much of him for a while unless we have a lot of injuries. Very little awareness or quality at the moment.

He offered about our only threat, which in fairness was not a lot. At least he tried to run towards the goal! Was anyone showing any awareness or quality tonight? JPM possibly. Anderson was poor again. Eze kept giving the ball away and in dangerous positions. Everton were the better team but thankfully lacked quality where it mattered. They actually had some tactics though other than "give it to Eze" or get Andersen to hit a long diagonal.

Where were the tactics tonight? The whole team looked clueless and that was basically our first team. Franca showed a great touch and pace and control but needs to be stronger and looked a bit lost on the right (why wasn't he on the left?) First start since June though in a competitive match so he needs more time.

It increasingly looks like Olise beat Brentford and that it had very little to do with Roy.

Positives:

1. Clean sheet

2. We’re in the hat.

I thought Franca did ok for his first start. I remember some folks on here being unimpressed with Olise when he started so let’s see how he does with more game time. Another decent game from Mateta up front . Other than that the only other positive was that Eze was so poor that I can’t see the top 6 being desperate to come in for him this window .

I haven't seen the foul that led to the red card, but it's being described as a challenge that was over the ball, studs showing, with a straight leg that could have broken Clyne's leg - yet none of the pundits seem to think Calvert-Lewin should've been sent off.

Am I missing something? Because everything about the way it's been described sounds like a blatant red card.

I'm sure one or two of you might be a bit biased here, but was it the right decision? It sounds pretty cut and dried to me.

I don't see this version of Eze making the Euros squad. Hopefully he can build up his fitness and rediscover that spark from the start of the season over the upcoming break.

At times I do wonder how a team can create as little as we do. We seem totally dependent on a moment of magic and a quick 1-2 to create a shooting opportunity. We don't seem to actually know how to build an attack to create a chance.

We're not trying to get to the byline, we're not trying to cross from deep, we're not trying to get a knock down in the box from a target man, we're not trying to create shots from the edge of the box, we haven't got midfielders coming from deep, we aren't trying to play over the top, we're not trying to do anything from set pieces...

Are we just waiting for Olise or Eze to pull a goal out of their backside?

We are yes.

I do not think it overly dramatic to be of the (albeit weakly informed) opinion that Roy's game plan is to stifle the opposition, playing for the 0-0 and hoping that with games tight enough, a goal or two pulled out of backsides will give us a fighting chance.

This approach looks masterful when we get 4 points from Old Trafford and the Etihad however can also see us succumb to long winless runs, numerous games without shots on target let alone goals and us struggling to even fashion anything against 10 men, at home, in the cup.

We either need to invest in attacking talent that can perform without instruction or tactics, or, we get a new manager in.

We didn't deserve anything there but neither did they really. Again, Roy is the board's choice to maintain a PL status whilst we remain unable to invest in players. The football is tedious and dull, will produce nights like this but also the odd shock result here and there to see us through another season, probably.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Typical Roy. No attempt to win the game. He had Ebiowei on the bench and could have replaced Franca like for like but no he floods the midfield instead.

Utter cr*p.
We had no idea going forward whatsoever and if we played another 90 mins we wouldn’t have scored.
Our basic ball skills and distribution is woeful and why we still persist in playing Mitchell I don’t know (oh I do we haven’t got any completion in that position!).
As for Mateta, way way below Premier league standard.
I agree with previous comments regarding the quality of coaching, it is clear that there is no plan other than defensive drilling which, doesn’t do much for scoring goals.
We need a change and that’s not a knee jerk reaction but more over the last 8/9 games.
Brentford was a game we could easily have drawn or lost.

Bring back Brolin
