The thing I recall with the Pink paper is that in some instances it would only be the latest scores in some instances as it would have gone to print early. Apologies for hijacking this transfer thread, but in my disillusioned state,a trip down memory lane is a welcome diversion. The football reporters had to phone through the bulk of their report at half time. "Phoning through" meant calling their newspaper and dictating their report to a copy-taker - someone who typed it out. That would then be passed to a printer, known as a setter, who would type it out again in the form of metal print. All this took so long that there was only time for another few words from the reporter at halftime. That was how the Saturday evening papers did things. I used to report matches for the Sunday Times which meant phoning my report through as soon as possible after the end of the match. I would be writing the report as the match went along. The worst thing was if a team scored near the end and altered the result, which meant rewriting your opening. The first edition of the ST went to press soon after 5pm, just enough time to print the football results. Other editions went to press later, which gave you more time. It was also possible to make corrections to a 5pm report for later editions. Those were the days of "hot metal", my friends, when the printers and their unions ran the show. All gone now, thanks to the new technology which Rupert Murdoch led the way in bringing into the newspaper industry. The printers are no longer required. The reporter writes his report on a laptop and sends it direct to the newspaper for printing.

I can remember leaving home games at full time then walking down to Norwood Junction to catch the Tattenham Corner train to Woodmansterne then on the walk home there was a newsagents shop with a few oldies waiting there for a van to arrive with the Evening Standard classified to turn up. I can still remember the joy of seeing the results and the league tables and as mentioned reports that didnt go to full time.Even if I had accidently heard the results from the tannoy or someones transister radio it was still something to look forward to.

Surely you mean 3d.

My two big memories was the smell of pipe tobacco and bovril around the ground and the noise of rattles down at the front.

Yes, it’s definitely not new news. Our interest has been all over the internet and social media for the last few days and he is a player we have reportedly courted for some months now.

It's incredible people still give that fella any credibility - anyone with a twitter account could provide the 'insight' he does to Hol.

I think when you claim to have some sort of insider knowledge or source at the club, is when I’d question how well intentioned it is. Sharing an existing rumour is one thing, claiming you have your own source telling you this stuff is another.
