As brilliant as Olise and Eze have been recently seeing Mateta play and score just lifts my mood! Honestly he's gone from something resembling Gareth Taylor to being more like Mark Bright.

We need a centre forward who scores goals not someone who just wins the odd header and holds the ball. People are saying he played well yesterday, were we watching the same game? Funny when you read old posts …

I always thought he could score goals but the rest of his game was dire. Now he looks the complete No.9, hold up play and movement are off the chart better.

I am not surprised with his performance. He shows up more when we are willing to attack and yesterday was one of them. For sure getting more minutes consistently is also a key. Not my cup of tea to criticize a player who plays only last 15 minutes occasionally. I am very keen to see both him and Edouard on the field maybe at least when we fail to grab a score we want. If i am not mistaken, we did this against Wolves when he also shined. He is much more hard working than Edouard but Edouard`s goal instinct is also missed. (This offer is applicable when we are willing to attack especially at home games ) For eg i was really pissed off when Roy subbed him with Mateta on Everton game as i was keen to win the game, Roy was conservative and then they scored I know “i said” posts are annoying but i said so These 2 elements were crucial and hoping that there would be a way to utilize Edouard as well.

Since Glasner arrived he's started getting his head to the ball making a massive difference on set pieces and corners. He is just getting better and better. Tonight he showed the world that what he wants will come true. To be a top premier striker. Keep working at it JeanPhillipe and you will be rewarded.

What a player he is turning out to be and showing the promise that freedman saw in him in Germany. Love to see it. Hard work wins in the end! Such good all round game tonight

That injury to Edouard in the Liverpool game back in December has proved to be very fortuitous. It enabled Mateta to get the starting run of games he needed to show what he can do. I was fairly confident that if he got a proper run in the team he'd prove his worth. I read that new contract talks are taking place (current one runs out in 2026). It is quickly becoming apparent that we have a proper 1st choice PL striker, Now for a suitable back-up.

One of the pundits on Five Live on the radio was saying when I was driving back that he’s a different player under Ollie and for a defender he’s horrible to play against and now his holding the ball up well and more importantly scoring goals.. I fancy him to hit 15 League goals by the end of the season...

He looks quicker and is definitely leaner than he was. It feels like someone has been working him hard in training and given him a good talking to about his fitness and he’s taken it on board

11 goals in 70+ games under Viera and Hodgson - 8 in 9 under Ollie - enough said.
