If you are getting stuffed down one side you cannot just let it continue.

On the positive side if Roy gives Franca and JRS more time on Friday hopefully they'll be ready to step up in the games that follow (Burnley, Everton and Luton). Plus Olise might be ready for the bench by then. Another positive is Newcastle might be put off poaching any of our players after that!!

It was obvious from the start, and Ayew should have been switched over within 20 minutes of said start. Perhaps we would then have gone in just the one down. We shall never know :-( Didn’t help that Lerma and Doucoure weren’t ready to start today. And other than Ward and Ayew in the second half everyone else had an off day. Not including those that came on but in truth they aren’t yet premiership standard. Newcastle were just too good and that’s no wonder with their monies and squad.

Easy, 0-7 against the scousers

0-4 against Fulham and Sunderland at home, at least Liverpool were in the top 2.

Outplayed today and we couldn’t cope with Newcastles intensity over the 90 minutes. Interesting to see we had 17 attempts at goal.

We paid the price for Rig being so negative. I almost don’t blame him rushing players back into the team but today shows the downside. We still got tonked.

Only upside was seeing the younger players get on the pitch. Poor performance from most of the players. The 2 central defenders/midfielders and forwards (esp JPM) were appalling.

Unfortunately the result I thought we would get up there. Hopefully the toon saw a below performance from Andersen and think they don’t need him.

I'm trying to recall Roy's response when we got tonked in succession by Villa and Livarpool a few seasons ago? I'm expecting a doubling down against Spurs and more rear guard action. let's face the fact that Mateta and Edouard are useless at defending from the front.

So maybe we try to play to our strengths. I was more worried about their inability to receive and keep the ball.

Roy has 50 more years’ management experience than me so I feel a bit sheepish in offering a mild criticism.
However, here I go…
It’s obvious to any football watcher that Newcastle attack down the sides and Mitchell was left criminally exposed having to contend with both the winger and a marauding Trippier.
I’m reluctant to criticise Edouard here because he’s not a natural tracker and I think we could all foresee before the game that gaps would be left and Mitchell left defending 2 on 1.
There’s no shame in being beaten by moneybags Newcastle who have enough players to field two teams ( plus having a greedy interest in Anderson and Eze if rumours are to be believed).
However, it was a poor performance and from Roy’s comments post match he seems to agree.

Some protect him like he’s their kid. He gets caught out of position more often than any left back we’ve had and I thought PVA was poor in that respect. We need competition in the left back spot for no other reason than lifting his performances.

I agree with some that it’s not all his fault today but he was at fault for two of the goals. If he is getting overloaded on his side he has to be screaming at the left mid and left attacker to help out. He’s not a junior player, he needs to be more vocal on the pitch.

At least PVA was good at going forward. Mitchell has been awful today, both in defence and attacking play. Can’t pass for toffee, gave the hall away so many times, ripped apart all game, booked because his poor touch got him in trouble and responsible for another two goals. That fourth one he was just so poor, nothing whatsoever to do with being overloaded or two players to mark, just simply not good enough.
