That must be why people are very cautious about public displays. It gives the state the control they want without actually having to exercise it.

I’m sure Jordan Henderson et al will take the knee or wear a red & white armband in their memory.

Looks to me, as I suspected, more political and controlling than anything else. Using the law as as excuse to get rid of people they regard as troublemakers. They have a history of that!

I knew someone a few years ago who worked for one of the Saudi princes, buying and building businesses for him. He lived and worked in Bahrain rather than Riyadh travelling to Saudi just for meetings. You can understand why!

All the money in the world but the risk of, excuse the term, trumped up charges which might lead to almost literally any punishment.

Braverman’s description today of the protests as “hate marches” seems to me to be unwise and misplaced. I wonder how the staunch advocates of free speech feel about such a description and the threat to introduce new legislation if the police fail to act. I am sure that some who protested did so with hatred in their hearts, but were they organised to spread hate or to protest about the level and kind of response to what all but a tiny minority would accept was an appalling act by Hamas? Surely you can protest about the humanitarian suffering in Gaza without being accused of anything resembling hatred? I think to do so is an insult to many who simply want the suffering to end. I have long thought her an awful politician but this has cemented that view. Who is she grandstanding for and why? Extremely unhelpful intervention which will only exacerbate the situation.

I think the kind of people who would attend a march that's concerned with the events in Israel/Palestine are one of two types. They either have an ethnic skin in that particular game which determines their loyalty......or they are political activists who have a firm stance on the topic. I hardly think they are going to be milk toast and/or nuanced about it. I like Braverman and I understand what's she's doing....but talk about closing the door after the horse has bolted....what does she expect. Good luck doing much about it all darling....I'd love to see you succeed. To be honest if you watch videos of the awful things that have gone on there it just depresses you. I've said it many times before but there are rarely such things as goodies and baddies in war. Edited by Stirlingsays (30 Oct 2023 10.41pm)

We say to the UK, American and Israeli governments: Enough! Enough of the bombardment! We won’t rest until we have justice. Until all people, Israelis & Palestinians, between the river & the sea can live in peaceful liberty. Labour MP Andy McDonald, of course suspended, and a tory MP given the boot for wanting a ceasefire. Democracy don't make me laugh.

McDonald is a jew hater, simples He is very aware of the significance of the phrase he used, maybe his struggle for relevance in a Starmer led government has made him turn to using language that supports Hamas. Gaza is not occupied so that's plain wrong . Tory MP is Peterborough I think so thinks he can protect his muslim vote, he should be kicked out. Edited by HKOwen (30 Oct 2023 11.17pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I have no idea what Braverman thinks she is doing and am surprised to read that someone thinks they do. Perhaps they could enlighten the rest of us? Free speech being dumped down the toilet perhaps?
