Well the VAR ref didn't agree with you. If he took the man then why was the decision ridiculous?

Of course we get the one ref that ignores var

I wondered if ever a referee did not reverse his decision when he was called to check on the screen.

We could argue all day about the refs decision, fact is the team put themselves in a position to allow the ref to decide their fate with their poor play the last 15.

I don't understand if the ref was so confident it was a penalty why it took him 5 minutes to decide? Surely if he was struggling to tell he doesn't give a penalty? A shame as 1-1 was probably a fair result.

We showed how limited our squad is outside the first 11 but we showed a lot of heart so I'm not going to complain too much, although we should really of finished the game off when we had the chance. The ref awarded Villa the win and we move on.

BTW, for the pedants out there, the penalty should have been retaken for encroachment according to the FA rules. I mean, they probably would have scored again, but the Palace players clearly pointed it out and VAR didn't intervene.

Annoyed, I blame our obvious shortcomings in the squad. Compare the squads - ours is maybe 2 or 3 good players, maybe 11 squad players and nothing much. Out wide are Ayew and Schlupp or some youngsters, or slot someone else in. If Ayew now injured, Edouard likely goes wide - which I find unconvincing. That or youngsters I'm not expecting us to use for more than five minutes when already ahead

Travesty of a score after we fell apart in the last 10 mins.
A Villa player was encroaching yards into the area for the penalty, but perhaps that's clutching at straws.
Lesson is to go 2 up when dominating as we were.
We missed a number of chances, but looked tired towards the end.

Should have put this game to bed before Villa gotback into into it .Big dissapointment but just didnt't have the subs to strengthen toward the end
Penalty rules have changed , encroachment only given if it effects the outcome

Sadly we didn’t get the killer second goal our play deserved. Perhaps if Eza passed and shot better and didn’t put us under pressure by losing the ball constantly we would have got the second goal to kill it? As for penalty, ref should have gone with the defender if in doubt but sadly he didn’t. I still don’t think he knew for definite which way to give it but as it was the home side he went that way in my opinion. With a bigger squad and injured players available we might have got the result in our favour today?

Didn't take long for posters to start blaming Richards. FYI, Watkins kicked Richards on the back of the heel & in stumbling Richards then fouled Watkins. OK?

If the VAR Official had been Michael Oliver, England wouldn't have had the balls to stick to his decision. Must have been a junior Ref

Don't like the result, but to be fair and honest we were under the cosh a lot and did not deserve a win. Just shows our lack of quality in squad depth. Time to move on and think about the next game!

Injuries from pointless Internationals didn't help, 3 of our best players.

We looked so tired the last 15 mins. It was a strange performance. A bit disjointed and I thought we were quite wasteful when we were 1-0 up but we didn't deserve to lose it either.
Hughes was slightly off the pace I thought but understandable with it being his 1st start.

I'm a qualified ref at Combined Counties level so I'm normally very supportive of officials however the penalty decision was bizarre... As slight a touch as Richards got on the ball he still got a touch when the tackle initially went in. That's the reason why he was sent to the screen to review it. I can't understand why he stuck with his initial decision.

But even more infuriating for me was why on earth the penalty wasn't retaken??... The 19 for Villa was at least 3 yards or so into the area before the ball was kicked. You have to ask yourself why has this not been picked up by VAR??

Johnstone and Ayew both picked up injuries. Hughes was hobbling a bit at the end as well. Not good for an already paper thin squad.

We move forward though.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
