Greetings from across the pond. First time poster to the board. My wife and I wanted to find a sport and team that both could root for and after some research and discussion we landed on Crystal Palace. We couldn't see ourselves pulling for one of the big clubs and Palace just reminded me of my NHL team, the New York Islanders, scrappy team without a goal scorer. I was happy to learn this club has a die hard fan base and is a suburban team.

I am very much a novice to the sport and to the team itself, so I apologize for any seemingly dumb questions or incorrect assumptions.

Today was our second match we've taken in. Much better second half today than the one versus Arsenal, even with the opposing team playing with a full 11.

I thought Eze had a great game. The offense overall just seems to me like everyone is waiting for someone else to do something. Despite that, the team muscled out a draw today which given the poor play in the first half, I was quite satisfied.

Although its only 2 matches, I can already feel like I'm getting into being a Palace fan and I look forward each week to the matches. It's also a plus my wife and I get to start drinking at 9am US time for the matches.

Cheers everyone, I look forward to reading the message boards and learning more about our newly adopted team.

Fantastic point but if the management and owners don't watch that and realise we massively need to upgrade RB, LW and ST it's borderline negligence.

Ward was utterly awful. Schlupp is average. Edouard is hopeless. Frankly I think Mitchell could be upgraded as well but that's not a priority.

Feel like these comments have been made post match now for far too long!

Wardy = Club Legend and absolute top bloke but this was just a shocking performance today. Has not been PL standard for some time now and his lack of pace is such a factor in him being an absolute liability.

Mitchell, same old same old, just not good enough!

Schlupp, anonymous yet again.

Enough is Enough…we are in dire need of a serious upgrade in both full back positions!

Him being our apparent first choice RB is an exposure that doesn’t serve him IMHO. He’d be a useful player to have as back up perhaps, but as a starting RB in the PL, he looks massively vulnerable and today it was exemplified on several occasions. Twice at 1-1 he inadvertently put them in on goal, says it all.

Mate - Wardy been a great servant - but now way past his sell by date..!!

He deservedly got named club Captain - for all he has given - but a starter at this time/in this team - no way..!!

Desperately need an upgrade - and arguably have done ever since AWB left..!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I don’t know much about Ward’s history or anything but he certain seemed a step behind the play and Brentford was certainly pushing his side most of the match. Hopefully is a down match for him but he did have some slow moments vs Arsenal as well.

Like most vets in any sport you hope he’s knocking the rust off in the start of season rather than it being the “big slow down” that I think most athletes eventually have to deal with.

For me Ward is more than acceptable to be right back, after Ayew i think he has been one of our better players, if Franca is going to play CF we need a winger, and if he is playing wide we need a CF, even Adams or Iheanecho is an upgrade. and why so far are we not using the loan system?

Absolutely agree including on him being a great servant.

He’s not only done his footballing duty but he feels very much part of the Palace community now. Can’t think of any aspersion to cast on his character whatsoever.

All that said, I’ve been nervous watching him play for a number of years now. I still think he is capable of doing a job on occasions but fair enough if others don’t agree. A few comments here suggest some weren’t at the game or seen it in its entirety at all. He was left chasing shadows on several occasions, arguably at fault for the goal, twice put them in unnecessarily at 1-1 and still looks very nervous whenever he’s on the ball. I think that’s not far off an objective commentary on his game today although I’ve not praised anything he might have done well, which in any instance would fall within the bracket of ‘the very least I expect from a player’. From the stands, what can be seen as his uncomfortability out there is sometimes palpable.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Everyone will have their own opinion on Ward and everything/one else of course so feel free to formulate your own.

In any instance, a very warm welcome to the forum!

Mitchell is probably getting exposed more now Zaha is not here. Teams would often double up on him, leaving Mitchell with less pressure.

A fair result although on another day we could have nicked it.

A solid performance from the team but oh boy we lack up front. Thank goodness Andersen showed up today, his determination got us that goal a pity some of our other attackers don't show the same appetite (Apart from Ayew.

Our 2 strikers need to work harder but at their age I doubt they will change their game.

Brentford had one shot on goal all game, whereas their keeper played a blinder. Bit disappointed we didn’t run out winners today. Apparently we are the only team they haven’t beaten in the Premiership, but we were really unlucky not beating them last season twice!
