I'm not so sure about that. Apart from being a total non-starter thanks to local residents and Bromley Council's opposition, I don't think the infrastructure at CP Park is fit for purpose and would require significant investment to make it so. This. It's been stated countless times why it is not a viable solution, I'm amazed that it's still being brought up.

Unless Palace (or others) are prepared to fund a tram extension from Croydon and the Bakerloo line to the park TFL will oppose it. Then there are the 5 boroughs who all want to wet their beaks not to mention the Nimby's and the friends of Crystal Palace park they will all want a cut.

Did you have 'The Godfather: Part II' in mind when you wrote this? If so, I tip my hat. Don't worry about the nimbies though; Sir Keith Starmer is going to sort them out.

Just found this article from last year that has a fair bit of info, including changes to other bits of the ground that I wasn't aware of. The expansion of the Main Stand will see the insertion of 8,225 new seats, while another 683 seats will be added to the corner of the Holmesdale Road and Arthur Wait stands. Accessible seating will be created in the Whitehorse Lane stand, reducing its capacity by 690. The overall capacity of Selhurst Park will be increased from 25,456 to 33,674. Additional modifications will see the fan zone relocated to the corner of the Holmesdale Road and Arthur Wait Stands, while the pitch will also be lengthened from 101m to 105m. The floodlights will be rearranged, with the removal of two of the existing masts. The TV gantry in the Arthur Wait stand will also be removed. So that bloody gantry in the Arthur Wait stand will finally go! With Crystal Palace park, as mentioned this has been debated over and over, but a quick summary would be that it was proposed back in 2011 and a quick plan was created, but local residents were very quick to object stating concerns about traffic (human and motorized) on match days and it seemed like it was mainly suggested to stop Tottenham doing something at the NSC. In retrospect, seems a bit short-sighted as the NSC is closed and falling apart (unless Khan actually stumps up some cash) and having Palace there would have brought in a lot of trade on match days, but there you go. My pie-in-the-sky idea would be to level the Whitgift Centre and build a new ground there! Croydon town centre has become worse than ever and putting a shiny new ground where there's no immediate residents, two major train stations, overground, tram and buses seems like a no brainer. Would bring in a lot of trade on match days and generate jobs, but realise this is probably completely unfeasible... (or is it..?)
The trouble with computers, of course, is that they're very sophisticated idiots |

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Even if we reach it I think that limit is considerably far away. So your preference for permanently staying at Selhurst may happen. However, if Palace were to become a club that was significantly limited by a stadium that had reached its development potential it's just a reality that selling the Stadium and relocating to a fresh larger build would be that answer. However, as I say.....if it ever happens that's a long way off.

Totally agree it’s where it should be located for historical reasons as much as the size of the site allowing for a large stadium and facilities in the middle of all the London Boroughs that essentially make up ‘south London’. I remember going to a pre-season friendly at CPNSC in 1968? versus West Ham and thinking this is where the club should play permanently. But that dream is no nearer now than it was then, 55 years ago. As you say, maybe some day for a future generation?
