I had a feeling this would happen, but, nevertheless, felt a jolt of shock when I woke this morning and saw confirmation of Roy's reappointment. But let's be realistic, with the mess we are in, and with only 11 games of the season left, it was unlikely that we were going to be able to recruit a permanent new manager of any stature and credentials. So it was always going to be stop gap. However, it does feel that this is an act of desperation, and even laziness, on the part of Parish. How far did he look for someone to step in. When he decided PV's time was up had he thought the matter through? Did he already have Roy marked down as our saviour, or did he have no idea where to turn next? But, I hope we are all proved wrong with our disapprobation of Roy's second coming. The deed is done and we have to get behind Roy and the team for our next match on the 1st of April. It would be unfortunate if that date proved prescient to what will befall us against Leicester City. Nice summary Pete I absolutely agree.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

BUT we won't do due diligence. Parish will now wait until August to start looking. 3 first choices will be touted, will all decline when they see the budget and Roy will stay until he's 90. Shambles. 🙄

Absolutely dreadful decision, although totally predictable. We're not creating or scoring enough goals, and are not fit enough so how does Roy Hodgson's appointment improve that ? Ten games of Luka and Jairo in midfield, with Roy sat in the dugout, legs crossed, staring into space. If PV needed to be dismissed then fine, but replace him with somebody that's going to have an impact. The odd draw isn't going to be enough.

Mods, give that Waddy pr1ck a yellow card. Probably a Brighton Troll. Roy will keep us up in the Prem. Survival is more important than playing attractive football. In August we will still be playing in this division, have a new manager and a few good signings; and all this hysteria will be forgotten. This club has sought to operate sustainably since it came up. It's a hard watch when others around us who we perceive to be smaller are not and are marching on. Nevertheless, we don't go out with the cheque book and panic buy the most expensive available manager. We get a holding manager who knows and loves the club and take our time seeking the best fit for the right price. And on that, there are some incredible coaches out there who would die for the one or two manager positions in this league. It is a buyer's market. Even for our budget.

Despite all the ill informed punditry, Vieira was clueless and had to be sacked. The fact that the board got rid of him in these circumstances tells you all you need to know.

The seeds were sown in the summer and winter transfer windows, any manager is only going to get so much of a tune out of this squad. A few highly talented footballers, a few premier league squad players and too many either constantly injured or no longer Premier League level. I admire Roy, but we are every bit a basket case as Watford at the moment. He is a safe pair of hands, its whether the squad is enough and the Board gambled on that in January. I hope you can do it Roy, for the fans sake. But stuff the Board.

All those calling for Vieira's head with the run of teams we had to play. You reap what you sow.

Success in any business, especially football, doesn't happen over night. It is a process and transition, something that Owners and Chairmen should well know. However, the financial impacts of failure are so extreme that it can lead to panic in the boardroom, which clearly is the case at Selhurst Park. Investing in a new style/young manager is equally a risk but, as we all saw last season and in part, the first half of this, progress was being made and with the remaining games being as they are v teams below us that is where we should have been and will be judged - not the past two months worth. If we stay up, which I believe we will (and would have done under PV), we effectively will have wasted the investment of the past 18 months and set us back or indeed past where we were before Roy took over first time round. Huge respect for Roy and like it or not we must support him for the remaining games. My hope is that SP and co are not just going to sit on their duffs until season-end before starting the process of finding a decent replacement for PV. With a guarantee of investment in the squad, AND TIME, it should still be attractive proposition for a new manager to take on !! COYP
