Any manager who walks into the dressing room after the worst performance of the season and finds someone else dishing out the bollockings is going to have the hump.

So PV has the authority over the board to sack someone? Sounds dubious.

Why is this dubious? I can sack members of my team at work without having to ask the CEO. I'm expected to know how to hire and manage my department.

I think what you mean is...

You are absolutely right to draw attention to this Willo, and I have discussed why elsewhere. In a nutshell, this is a PR/marketing issue and PR/marketing is Parish's domain; it's what he does and what he's good at. Therefore, the fact is that the way he has handled (or failed to handle) the Derry story is significant. Given Parish's PR expertise and his loyalty to former players, both characteristics which have been entirely absent the past week, it seems reasonable to assume that Derry's departure is one that all and sundry welcomed and felt was justified.

Parish is a shrewd businessman and will do what is best for his investments, not what is best for his employees. He's renowned for it in the advertising world. There is a clear distinction in his world between people and business. If it doesn't serve the club to recognise his departure then he won't do it.

Call me old fashioned but i quite like the idea of giving them the hair dryer after an inept display. If PV feels he needs to put an arm round them then he is inviting problems. Ok SD probably overstepped his authority but he has the club in his heart and wont stand for a lack of effort. Always have huge respect for him as one of our admin boys that possibly saved the club from extinction. They are all legends in my book

Fair enough, but there must be some disciplinary rulebook you have to abide by, no? Verbal, written, final warning, dismissal?

"Aww, you poor thing, did nasty Mr Derry upset you with his horrible words? Never mind, you've deservedly earned your £60k for this week's hard toil; see you again tomorrow for training. I'll pop over to Sainburys later and pick up some doughnuts as a special treat. By the way, is that the latest top of the range Merc your driving?"

I feel the same - if I put that much effort in at work I'd expect a bollocking. But obviously what they get a week - I get a year.

Not just an arm round them - it's full blown hugs for PV's boys

Only the best will do!
