I never witnessed the game but I am told that Wales had no punch in attack at all and the wide players never got behind the Iranian defence with Brennan Johnson particularly disappointing. I was also informed that Amapdu performed well and that he would be a useful signing for us given that he can play in central defence and in midfield. You'll watch tonight - just tune in a couple of minutes past scheduled kick off time and turn off the sound. Listen to Churchill's speeches on the wireless during the game, or Radio 4.

For a game that was heading for yet another 0-0 until very late in the game that was actually quite exciting. Not quite sure why the referee thought Wayne’s assault on the Iranian player only warranted a yellow but there you go. Also don’t know why Bale wasn’t substituted. I don’t know how many touches he had in the whole game but it can’t have been many. End of the road for him I suspect. I agree. Far from a classic but excellent viewing for all that.

Someone mentioned to me that there was footage of Welsh supporters 'Virtue signalling' with those darned rainbow hats. Returning to the football, it is highly improbable that Wales will qualify for the knockout stages."No hope and Bob Hope" springs to mind. Edited by Willo (25 Nov 2022 12.41pm)

Johnson and James are similar in that they both seem like they should be exciting players but neither has any end product. Ramsey always looks tidy when playing for Wales and Kieffer Moore looks like a great target man, but Bale has struggled this World Cup and he really is their only real chance of success. Iran were the better team in the second half hitting the post twice even before Wayne lost his head.

At 6ft 5in he is a potent threat in the air but I am informed that he is more than just a physical outlet in that he is technically adept and can be a link-man between midfield and attack. He used to ply his trade as a lifeguard and started his senior career at Truro City. I feel a bit sorry for Hennessey. Daft thing to do, but he did quite well up until then. Wales lost because they're not really good enough and have some very average players, but it does show how remarkable it is that they qualified in the first place. It does set up a very tasty game between Iran and the USA. England should really win tonight, although I still have no faith in Stones and Maguire. I feel sorry for England, as Hennessey won't now be in goal against us...

14 games so far, 4 of them have finished 0-0. Not great as far as entertainment is concerned. Would be nice to see a couple of late, late winning goals to ramp up the excitement a tad. A bit like what Iran did to Wales?
