A lot of them mouthing off and squaring up to our fans near the station totally unprovoked Didn't see that but got a chuckle over the three Southampton boys in their 20s behind me approaching the station who were heard to say: "Well. That was a waste of a trip. Now we have to spend two to three hours getting back to our s***hole of a town."

I was sitting a few rows back from Vieira yesterday and as Southampton got on top in the second half Vieira was imploring our attacking players to come back and assist in alleviating the pressure. Originally posted by palace chick
Southampton changed how they were playing from the start of the second half and pressed us like Everton did the week before. Luckily we got away with it and should have made those substitutions earlier to strengthen our midfield. PV seems to like to play with just one central midfielder which worked in the first half as Southampton didn’t press us. I can only see problems ahead if we continue with just one central midfielder? But, well done Luka yesterday as he like Dacoure does carried our midfield in the first half and then played well with Hughes and Reidewald alongside in the second half after they came on.

Were you walking towards Norwood Junction at the time (left hand side of the road, about 400 yards before you turn into station road) because I thought I heard the same conversation. Originally posted by FrankieD108

One final thought - the behaviour of a good number of Soton fans during the minute's silence before the game when the last post was being played was disgusting.

Ah, this must be the incident I refer to in my post above. Really hope PV gives him a grilling in training about playing for the team. Actually, when the going gets tough and everyone has to muck in with the defensive duties, there are a couple of players in our team who don't pull their weight. I'm more than happy to see PV substitute them.

At the end of the game, PV had his arm around Ebs as they walked towards the Holmesdale. That suggested to me that he was showing Ebs some love after having substituted him like he did. A more clinical team than Palace would have had the points in the bag by half time. One goal was scant reward for the way we took the game to them. I was pleased by the way we kept our concentration in the second half when Southampton were on top. I was waiting for the clumsy foul on the edge of our area and the resulting JWP free kick, but thankfully it never came.

Absolute silence was adhered to by all sections of the ground with the exception of a few idiots, although to be fair they were getting shushed by their own fans. Quite a few positives from yesterday. 1) we didn’t start slowly which has been a problem all season.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
