This thread just keeps on giving. So many programmes have refreshed old memories. Well done Teddy for starting it. From recollections of Sunday lunch with the radio blaring out Two Way Family Favourites followed by Billy Cotton, then Round The Horne or The Navy Lark etc to mimicking the stop, start introduction to Dr Kildare at school. Wonderful stuff. Today's programmes are rubbish in comparison.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The Big Match. Brian Moore. It was so exciting to get to selhurst and see the camera’s were there. We used to stand under the TV stand and watch Brian Moore going up his rickity ladder when we were on. Then I’d be buzzing Sunday dinner time waiting for it to come on. Even in division 3 we would be the main game, how times have changed Edited by monkey (16 Sep 2022 1.52pm)

Round the Horne was great but listening to it now makes you think how little of Julian and Sandy people actually understood at the time...

Not so much rubbish POG (although there is a lot of it) but programmes we watched and loved in the 60s and 70s emphasised much more on dialogue and interaction between characters. Take the jokes and canned laughter out of a sit com like The Likely Lads and you more or less have a 'Play For Today'. Even something like The Good Life (apart from the superb ensemble acting) was nothing less than a political and social commentary on 70s England

What surprised me about the superstars program was how fit the racing drivers were, often beating the more established, recognised physical sports stars (soccer / rugby etc) it never dawned on me at the time the kind of fitness regime that they must undertake for their sport - Originally posted by JRW2
There was. I remember being astonished to see Malcolm Macdonald, Arsenal and Newcastle number 9, beating the flying Welsh and British Lions wing three-quarter, Gerald Davies, over 100 yards.
