I had stopped thinking about CG as an option until I saw his rather unhappy looking face standing on the touchline before coming on for 2 minutes yesterday. They should sell him now, ideally to us. Unfortunately, the likelihood is that he will become yet another could have been at Chelsea.

The BBC are reporting that Wet Spam have inquired about taking CG on loan but that he has reiterated he has no desire at all to leave Chelsea.

If his best mate Guehi gets picked for the England squad whilst playing for Palace, maybe the penny will drop for CG and he'll realise he needs to make the move. If you perform Chelsea have no problem in buying players back anyway..

They've both been nowhere near as good since. You could probably say the same for Gallagher. I care far more about Palace football than England football.

It certainly seems to me that all three have dropped off since international call ups, but it's difficult to say if this is more than coincidence. Originally posted by ASCPFC

He may well have to wait for a few injuries, but he's a young player at a top club, that kinda the gig. Wait for an opportunity and be ready to take it.

I've always said and I still believe that Gallagher is in play and he'll remain our number one target until the window shuts. Nothing has persuaded me to change the view that a deal, if unlikely, remains within the bounds of possibility. The latest news, that both Chelsea and Gallagher himself rejected a loan bid by West Ham last week tells us much (if true). That Chelsea wasn't interested in a loan tells you only that if he left, they'd want to sell him not loan him. That Gallagher himself became involved in responding tells you a lot more because that being the case, Chelsea must have asked him for his view which tells in turn that they are willing to at least consider his departure. You don't ask a player for his response to an incoming bid if you have no intention of letting him leave. I think at this point we can safely say that Chelsea isn't actively looking to move Connor on, but if the right bid did come in and Connor was interested then yes, a deal could be done. Which, of course, brings us to Wilf. The table is set for a deal although there are a lot of moving pieces that would need to fall into place to make one happen. If Chelsea's interest in Wilf is genuine and if Connor was willing to move permanently to Palace (both big "ifs" at this point but at the same time, both not unrealistic possibilities) then I wouldn't be remotely surprised if something happened before the window shut. In the end, Patrick clearly loves Connor. Wilf clearly wants to play CL football. Connor clearly wants first-team football and though he doesn't want to leave Chelsea, it's not impossible that he accepts it may right now be the best move for his career. And he was clearly happy at Palace. It's not hard to imagine everything might (might, not will) fall into place. I think as I've said before Connor is absolutely our number 1 target and we won't spend any serious money elsewhere in the window until a deal for him is either done or completely ruled out. I'd be very surprised if conversations between Palace and Chelsea weren't at least ongoing in the background at this point. This deal gives both clubs something they want. It makes too much sense.

I really hope you are right . At the very least Syd has articulated a lot of sense CT. I wouldn't be shocked for this to be a late in the day 'big-breaking news' (thinking big yellow banner on SSN ). We won't get big money for Wilf these days however a decent sum plus CG+ on loan might work out for all parties. If we are looking at another winger (according to some) then just for amusement, perhaps a new winger to take Wilf's spot, a WZ departure to Chels with Gallagher, a fee, and perhaps even another player (RLC?? or someone) might just be on the cards. All very hypothetical but not beyond the realms or possibility! Edited by Nicholas91 (09 Aug 2022 10.31am)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

That seems about right (maybe even a little high) given he has only a year left on his contract. I would guess Connor's value (given he's on a longer contract) would realistically be in the region of £40 million, possibly a little higher possibly a little lower. Connor for £15 million and Wilf to Chelsea as part of the deal would be very good business for us given that we're going to lose Wilf for nothing if we don't do something now.
