didnt watch the game live caught the highlights , but a good all round performance , Wolves didnt look at the races but that was more to do with our team effort rather than there poor play , We played alot of good football this season , ok we had a dip but still got points , looking forward to next season (god willing) add another couple of players to our squard and maybe we can do what West spam have done , Man city next will hold my breath on that one COYP

What I liked about the BBC report was the recognition of how well we defended in the 2nd half. As for Mateta - probably his best game for us - was a real nuisance in the first half. I questioned Schlupp's inclusion but have to eat humble pie. He was excellent today. And Wilf? I've been a critic at times this season but he played for the team today and especially in that 2nd half when he was tireless in his defensive duties. We sang loud and well. They knew we were there, even if we couldn't hear them. Edited by doombear (06 Mar 2022 12.15am) I agree with everything you've said here. That first half was unbelievably good. If played like that every week we'd be pushing for the top 8.

Great win. 1st half Gallagher and Kouyate bossed the midfield, giving theirs no chance. Wilf always seems to do well against them and had a blinder as well yesterday. Good to see Mateta causing problems in the box. COYP !!

Love the match ratings from Who Scored: [Link] JPM, VG, Wilf, Mitchell, Schlupp and Gallagher all with stand-out performances.

I was also there with my son and enjoyed every minute. It has to be said that, as good as we were, Wolves put in the worst 45 minutes I've seen from an opponent this season. I though we were a bit wasteful from good positions and should have had the game way out their reach. Equally the way we defended as a team when Wolves inevitably started asking a few questions was excellent. Guehi, Mitchell and Zaha were brilliant. Zaha looked as though he was enjoying himself. I was scathing of Mateta at the outset but his desire to stretch the opposition and score is making a real difference at the moment IMO. He's already better than I thought he would ever be.

This basically was PV's one criticism of his side i.e. not clinical enough. I'm not entirely sure how you make your players more clinical though. I suppose Mike Bassett types would shout "what's the matter with you, son?! Stick it in the onion bag for f***'s sake!!" Or something similar. Interestingly PV put the 2nd half approach down to "knowing we wouldn't be able - due to tiredness (especially after the cup tie) - to keep up the momentum of the first half for 95 minutes". Interesting because I would have thought the way we played in the 2nd half would be pretty tiring too. Indeed, Wilf admitted that he was knackered even though he barely touched the ball.

I have posted many times before on our day we can beat anyone. What has cost us this season is throwing away points to silly mistakes. None of those on show yesterday.

I watched Maquire today and have no doubt that Guehi is easily a better player already. Would not be surprised to see him included in the England squad. Originally posted by Lanzo-Ad
Guehi was outstanding, shouting and organising the team at set plays, He should be permanent Captain now. Edited by DutchEagleJohan (07 Mar 2022 11.23am)

This from the Mail On Sunday's report on the game was particularly pleasing: "How different they are this season under Patrick Vieira, fiery and lively and full of ways to hurt you." For the full report:

He's obviously well known and regarded in the England set up. I honestly think if he was 6'5 he'd be touted as the next Van Dijk. Can imagine him and Stones working well together.

Marc Guehi is starting to remind me of Des Walker (some may need to Google him). A really good Forest and England centre back who was not the tallest. He had an air of class about him, was very hard to beat on the ground and did well in the air.
