Some people do like be the theory of the one that got away. I struggle to see why that would be the case with Sorloff she was a donkey for us who as he got lucky and had one good season in a poor Turkish league meant we go lucky and got the silly money we paid for him back. Mateta is at least twice the player. Look at the knock down to Gallagher in the lead to his goal yesterday as an example of better overall play. Sorloff has now faded back into the background he was never going to make it in any decent side.

As you all know I've been a big critic of Mateta, but fair play to him, he's come on leaps and bounds. Ability wise, he's still the worst of our strikers by a mile, but he's working hard and making PV keep him in there. So fair play. Just to enlighten you with your pathetic statement, Mateta is easily the best CF at the club, the clue is in the manager is picking him above the other players, maybe you do not have the intellectual capacity to grasp that.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

You need to learn the difference between a fact and an opinion. Or better still, just bugger off altogether. Everyone on the site is sick of you.

Mateta seems to have a big heart and a big personality and so it's hard not to like him. He doesn't fit with football's paradigm of what makes a good footballer in many senses, but perhaps that is why he is proving effective; the Mateta Paradox, if you will. I love debating and discussing players, but I couldn't care less if I'm proved right or wrong provided we win and play well. I also think Mateta doing what he's done could be good for the whole squad as it shows you can earn a place in the team if you work hard, for whatever opinions are on JPM's talents are no one can question the work he is putting in.

Mateta is clearly above Benteke and Eduoard in the pecking order for the central striking role and I suspect not many would have predicted this at the start of the season. A former coach of his at a French club has said that Mateta is better with his feet than his head and for such a tall player has great skills with the ball adding that he is strong and relishes the physical challenge.
