I know wilf scored, but for the other 93 mins he was really poor again

I thought he was more of a threat tonight than Ayew and was far better than Sunday. But still miles off his best. It just didn’t click in the final third.
In the end I will take the point and move on. On their day Southampton are a decent side and we struggled with their press. They scored 2 fantastic goals, but we kept on battling and hung in there. It wasn’t pretty but a point was a fair result.

Outstanding??... His forward play is not good enough if we want to progress... He looks scared when he gets the ball in final third and just will not take people on.
I want him to succeed I really do but he hasn't kicked on in his forward play at all.

To be fair neither has Wan Bissaka and we got 50 mil for him.

As others have said I really don't know what to make of that performance...
It was messy and we gave away a ridiculous amount of fouls in silly areas against a team with one of the best dead ball specialists in the League.

I'm getting tired of Wilf if I'm honest. He gives the ball away at least 5 or 6 times a game, however he can produce moments here and there that means he keeps his place.

We have got to get a new right back and left back... Mitchell and Ward are both as bad as each other going forward. Tomkins had an absolute nightmare game. Thank god Anderson is back.

Work in progress.

His goal tonight was a bit fortunate I thought because it appeared to me that Hughes removed his leg and made no contact at all for the free kick, obviously VAR doesn't like Wednesdays.

Made it quite surprising to me how we kept playing out from the back when it was evident Southampton couldn't believe their luck.

Yes a mate watching on the television text me to say that Hughes made no contact so typical that's the one he scores. We still gave away far to many silly free kicks.

Mitchell only turned 22 in September, and for my money he has improved more than any other player in the club in the past 12 months. Among the returners only Benteke might be in the conversation – but for every goal he has scored, he has missed 2-3 reasonable chances. Sitting Ayew inspired him to play well, but over 17 matches I don't think he or anyone else has played BETTER than last year, except for Mitchell.

Our midfield was knackered tonight after last Sunday’s performance. Southampton’s pressing which was much better than Everton’s caused us problems. Midfield didn’t have easy short passes to our midfield tonight as they did against Everton. Perhaps starting with Andersen may have helped and/or a change or two in midfield as well? Even then, if Edouard puts away the easy chance at 1.0 the match could have been over. Wasn’t impressed with Butlands passing compared with Guaita’s at the back as well. There were times when the long ball was needed as well but we passed back and put ourselves under pressure. A free kick on the half way line after Benteke came on required that long ball but it was passed back and we then lost it. Very frustrating tonight but happy we got the draw having been 1.2 down at half time.

Posting sensible view isn't appreciated, most here are looking for someone to blame. Looks like it's Mitchell's turn.

for quite a lot of the game, we looked afraid of Southampton.

us passing the ball from defender to keeper to other defender. Even when we were a goal down, not hungry enough to attack.

surely confidence, hunger and drive are Everything ?

I do not know but it is a good question?

Or it could be supporters on their teams forum having different opinions... I suppose it it depends on how you view a democratic society.

Southampton were noticeably quicker to the ball and as a result we gave away those silly free kicks, there were times during the first half where I thought they'd over run us and we'd be lucky to go in just 1-3 down, but I also noted that the ref didn't allow the game to flow at all and I feel he made the spectacle a lot more painful to view then was necessary.
