Amongst my pals, we've watched as much as we can bearing in mind the time zone issues. I was up watching from 4:30 this morning but I can imagine viewing figures plummeted after the Melbourne Test. Was surprised to see our opening partnership last 11 overs for 30 runs this morning - Crawley looked very assured and scoring freely. Hameed looked like he just didn't want to get out - which is fine if you don't get out. It makes a big difference if the openers can see off the new ball, it should make scoring for Root and co easier against a softer ball. If no rain, run rate of 3.65 per over to win. I'm the ultimate optimist, if we can score 100 with the loss of only 1 wicket by lunch, you never know... Basically, the cricket viewers I know suspected this was just a series too far for England, and no one likes to see a mismatch. No joy in one side winning every game, whilst the opposition merely fold.

England scrape a draw in the final Test and escape a white-wash.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

The Great Wall of Leach and Broad were dogged and looked in control. Poor old Root looked emotional during his interview. Tough series taking its toll. Hope we can field a team in Hobart with all our injuries!

I wouldn't mind being there watching (and drinking) but staying up for TV is more than I can be bothered to do. I don't have BT Sport anyway so I couldn't watch it. I already pay a BBC licence fee, extensive Sky package, Amazon Prime. Netflix, Disney + and Apple TV so don't intend to add to that lot

I presume TMS have been covering it, but I'm so fed up with England, I haven't checked?

Pitch has a tinge of green in Hobart and you lot won the toss and will bowl. Cummins admitted he would have bowled if he had won. Pity we aren't playing for 5-0, think Pat batted too long before declaring late on day 4 in Sydney. Led by 400 with 100 overs left in the game, and after losing a wicket, batted on for another few overs. Been a wet Spring / Summer on Australia' East coast (La Nina) and more rain forecast for Hobart. Another draw for me. Why hasn't Bairstow played prior to Sydney?

Mind you that's similar to most of the batsman.

Why play Wood instead of Anderson on a green top? When it came to commentary on this Ashes I think Anderson's words prior to this match were the most honest I'd heard so far.....maybe those picking up undeserved wages didn't like to hear them. There's definitely too much of the 'he's a nice fella that Root likes' aspect to England selection. You can see it in Wood and Woakes, where more attention is focused upon their personalities than their averages.....Wood has the pace but not the movement while Woakes just can't do it outside England. Today really took the biscuit for me....that was a bowl them out for 150-200 wicket and it was an utter failure. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jan 2022 12.34pm)
