Div is a scouse word for idiot. It is short for divvy which in turn is a corruption of Deva. The Deva Hospital was a well known mental hospital.

Why would anyone feel anything but sympathy for the career of CW?

Decent player - unlucky with injuries.

Nearly everyone in the world has more money than me. Has not taken away my empathy with someone suffering a career blow.

Its almost as if some people delight in the injury as they feel he deserves it as he somehow cheated us!

Wish him all best for the future.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Connor Wickham has had surgery on his hamstring injury and posted a picture of himself on crutches on instagram.
It is unclear how long he will be out, but Preston North End are bracing themselves that 2022 will be the earliest Wickham will be seen playing again.
Here are some words from the man himself: 'To say I'm gutted is an understatement.

'But I'm grateful to have been in the hands of the best, the surgery was a success and I'm already on the road back.

'I know I'll give everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

'Thank you to everyone who's reached out in the past few days. Much love CW21.'

Might be more vindication that we didn't offer him a new contract when some were saying that we should have given him one.

Would have been annoying for us to have the injury years and then see him bang 20 in for PNE this season.

No hard feelings towards the guy, but his career is getting to be a bit of a joke. Gonna be a brave club to take him on next.

Well its a shame for him that his body is just not up to it. As has been mentioned, I'll save my sympathy for those more needy. Despite not playing he has still earned millions from the game. Money a club like Palace could have really put to a better use.

It's not all bad news in the Bentley-driving world of permanently injured professional footballer/athlete Connor Wickham.
Earlier this months, and I use his words, he had this positive twitter message for his fans: "Buzzin my WhatsApp is back."

Contract at PNE has expired and will not be renewed because of injury. Sadly looks like it’s the end of the footballing road for Conor.

latest injury was very unlucky, but some players seem to just get these things. Maybe his body is telling him to retire - he surely doesn't need the money

He’s one of those players whose cumulative injuries have created weaknesses, Michael Owen, Jack Wilshere and others have had the same problem.
According to Wiki he’s played 77 times since 2013. It must be time to pack it in. Even if he could find another club the likelihood is that he’ll have a lot of physical problems when he’s older.
From Palace’s perspective it’s a shame because there did seem to be a player there but what more could be done?

77 times in 8 years... Wow... He's been extremely fortunate to of been paid so well for doing very little.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
