Agree. European football will be a big factor especially for a player who has spent time at Liverpool. Think he may see us as to small an option, unless the PV pull works it’s magic

...and more likely appearances.

I hope this isn't one of those deals where we do all the groundwork agree a fee and then another club normally West Ham come along and say yup that'll do.

According to the rumour mill there are a number of other clubs showing interest in him

I was talking to an Irish scouser today in the gym , he says this guy is terrible , he described him as the Benteke of defending .

It could work out like that. It might be the reason, considering the club don’t appear to making big demands, And so we are told he has a stream of admirers, yet no one has made that vital offer.
As it has been said here it could revolve around the player himself, and agent making terms with any of those clubs .Have a bid accepted and your cards are on the table.

Think of the CB for Liverpool he has to compare him to. All CBs look like Benteke in defence by comparison.

I know what you mean Badger.

But I think this is where PV adds some value - in terms of the pulling power of his reputation and achievements as a player.

It does make me feel a little more confident in our appeal over our rivals - especially with SP saying recently how hands on PV has been in meeting targets and adding his input before they sign.

I Don’t think Cooper would have the same draw!

As much as I’d like a new CB I’m also really happy with the new lad Marc.G and Tomkins playing for us at the back. I’m really hoping we see Ferguson this season as well as he could be a real player for us.

We need at least 4 or 5 senior CBs to get through the season. Assuming Guehi and Tomkins are 1st choice. We have Kouyate as makeshift CB and Kelly who didn’t play a single minute of football last season as back up. We still need at least 1 more top class CB.

If we can get Kabak for £10million or less than it’s another very good deal. Low risk with his age and international experience. I didn’t see enough of him at Liverpool to see if he is cut out for the Prem but 6 month taster certainly wouldn’t have hurt.

Kouyate is not a “makeshift” cb. All you hear every time we play is that he is midfielder and therefore alludes to it being a weakness and he shouldn’t be there,

He has played for us all season at cb. He plays for his country at cb. He is not a makeshift center back. He is actually a centre back as well as a midfielder.

There is an old perception that if you are labelled a midfielder, you therefore annoy be anything else. Dion Dublin (gosh, showing my age) was a cracking centre back.

….we do need another centre half and Kabak would be good. But I would be happy if Kouyate aswell. I thought he did well last year and one was of our consistent performers

We have off loaded three experienced central defenders. It took all three of them plus Tompkins, and Kouyate, to get us through the last two seasons. There can not be any doubt that we need more in that position than what we possess right now. I would like to see some experience in any signing, whether Kabak, represents that might not be the case.. We definitely need more in the position, In my opinion it’s two we could do with, unless someone is actually coming through from the under twenty threes.
Where Kouyate, is concerned he is just as needed in mid field as in defence, and the truth is we are light in both positions even if Mc,Carthy, was to stay..

He’s makeshift in the sense he isn’t a career centre half. He isn’t a standout/ dominant CB for sure. Made lots of errors last season in terms of positioning or weak clearances that directly led to goals.

I think he’s stuck between two positions( similar to Eric Dier). If Guehi and Tomkins are fit, I think he either moves into midfield or he’s on the bench.
