Playing hard ball. We will leave them with an unsettled player for a period. Still 23 days to go. Give it 10 days and go in with a 2.5m bid

Could well be. Not very nice for the club or the player. Might possibly backfire if he gets p...d off with being left in limbo, or leaves another club an opportunity to come in and snaffle a good player. Personally I would prefer the club to come back in with a raised bid early next week maybe as you suggest and complete the deal?

Agree with you Peter. There are times when the club needs to play it hard, but I think the club's made their point and it's time to go back with a final bid - not the amount Marcus Evans wants but one which he will recognize as our final one and will either take or have a disgruntled player on the club's hands, rather like us with Wilf last summer.

The issue with going in with bid next week is that we will likely be rejected and then we will have to go in with a higher bid towards the end of the window. If we go in with our final bid with 3-4 days to go, Marcus Evans will have a decision to make. They value the player at 8m btw. He is an asset to them so they don’t want him getting injured. He is not playing this weekend and could miss 3-4 games.

Only other team that was linked was West Ham and they are trying to get the Burnley CB. I can’t see them spending on a CM for league one. This is football however and you never know.

Exactly this.

Maddison too came fairly unheralded iirc. May have it wrong but I don’t recall a great fight over him when Leicester came calling. A good year in a very underwhelming Norwich side in the Champo

Did have more on his cv naturally but a snip for 20 mill.

Sometimes it's worth taking a punt on a young play from the lower leagues, Palace can see some potential, probably needs more development but must be a very good player in there.

don't think there was a queue behind Spurs when they bought Dele Ali, so wouldn't worry too much about lack of interest from other clubs. Worst case he's still young enough too have a sell on value if he proves us wrong in a couple of years.

I think we've built up a squad of senior pros now which allows us to take the risk of signing young players at as a bit of a gamble.

We couldnt have taken the risk a few seasons back as we were looking to stabilise.

Remains to be seen whether Palace will come back in with a higher bid. It does sound as if Downes had a hard time dealing with the pressure of a bid come in?

4 mill and we can’t see that as a good deal ? , even if we loan him out to a good championship club (Brentford) to develop more what’s is there to lose ?

I once held the dream that we would fill our club from the bottom up with products of the England youth set up.

This is just the sort of acquisition we want to invest in our future.

The other more distant dream is that said England youth players all evolve from our own academy...

This might possibly creep across the line, but as I understand it we might have until 16th October?

Of course it’s not a good deal. Have to weigh up risk and reward. He’s a long way from the Prem right now.

That could equally be a sign of good scouting.

Yes, we're known for our scouting.

Do we have a scouting team who look at attack and defence separately? It would make sense given some ex-player or coaches will have a better knowledge of certain positions. We seem to have unearthed a few good defensive options, but with the exception of Scott Banks, not many attacking players.

So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet.

Yeah. We’ll probably construct the loan in the same way as the Sorloth one!
