ER have achieved their main aim which is to raise awareness about climate change. Protests can get you so far but at some point the public are entitled to ask what is your solution? If ER don't change their tactics they will be seen as a white middle class virtue signalling group and will lose public support. Look at the occupations of their people at Canning Town not exactly the low paid zero hour contract types. As I have posted previously they now need to move beyond snarling up the traffic and start to campaign on specific issues which could be achieved fairly easily. Reduce plastic bottles, reduce packaging pick up litter get kids walking to school etc. If you start with the little things then people will be more likely to listen to you about the bigger challenges. It wont be easy to get the public to give up things but they will earn the respect of people or they can become like Parliament against everything and for nothing. ER are at the crossroads carry on as they are and I expect more resistance from the public change tactics and it will take longer and will be harder but they can build a solid support base with the public. You're absolutely right. They've got enough members to go round and do something proactively to really help the community. But it's more fun just to be pricks. Shows the type of people they are.

£37m that is the cost of Tarquin and Jemima's hissy fit. I think the fuzz should send ER the bill. Meanwhile back in the real world violent crime is on the increase because they know that the police are too busy with these idiots.

Their latest antics About 15 Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstrators got on to the site at Fawley, Hampshire, at about 06:30 BST. They include sailor Laura Baldwin and gold medal-winning canoeist Etienne Stott. Other XR protesters have scaled two 50ft (15m) oil tanks on the site. Police said they have officers on scene and will take action if necessary." (BBC, 28 Oct 2021)
I've worked at a few fuel sites, and they are shlt hot on safety. (perhaps not so much at Buncefield ) I really don't think pl55ing the public off is the way to go with these sorts of demonstrations. Another fuel shortage in Britain is not going to do anyone much good.
I disengage, I turn the page. |
