Whilst employed in the Middle East we had a working week of Sunday to Thursday (Friday & Saturday being the weekend) the number of calls I would receive from Europe on a Friday, they all start with, oh sorry I have just realised that your off on Friday, anyhow whilst I have you on the phone.......... One company decided that they were going to have their monthly meeting on the last Friday of every month, I emailed back that I was available for this meeting on either the Thursday, the Sunday or the Monday - we ended up having them on the Monday. But overall you are absolutely right, you can put up with quite a lot of BS if the package is decent. Originally posted by Wisbech Eagle
My wife works in the NHS, and she can work a 3-day working week. 3 "long" days, each of 12.5 hours. Because of staff shortages, most nurses generally work 4, many work 5 and some "international" nurses work 7. In my own business career, as the MD of the UK subsidiary of a German business, the owner insisted I had my "handy" (mobile) with me at all times and thought nothing of calling at any time that suited him, and made no apologies for it. There were a few awkward moments! I was very well paid, though, so put up with it!

Here's some good news. The supermarket where I work had its highest-ever day's takings yesterday, by quite some margin. There's no cost of living crisis round these parts.

How right you are on that front. I expect many of us with been in that position. Was speaker to a plasterer pal the other day, he earns good money, but said he's getting out before long as 'it keeps you fit until it kills you'. Sounds about right.

If you want a suggestion for the weekend look for the Brazilian film 'City of God'. Portuguese with subtitles which I'll admit the mere suggestion of would put me off, but a very, very, very good film.

Will give it a watch. I'm not averse to foreign films of various genres. Let the Right One In, Time Crimes, Train to Busan..
