No mention of his sorrow for the fans having to pay and watch that, at least the players can look at there bank statements in the morning and have a good laugh about it

Colchester did not come to defend, we just move the ball around so slowly they could jog back and get 10 men behind the ball. Do Benteke and Wickham actually move about in training to receive a pass from midfield? If not, perhaps that is something Roy might want to ask them to try, it seems to work quite well for my son’s under-10 side. Admittedly they are not playing a crack side like Colchester. I am afraid the Man U result papered over the cracks. If we had lost that 3-1, then people would be screaming for Roy’s head. Needs to be a big improvement for Saturday.

No doubt a taster for this weekend.

I agree about the playing at home comment but in truth if teams like Sheffield Utd set themselves up at home as they did we would lose the away matches as well. However, teams at home, especially those in the top half will come at us which allows us to do what Sheffield and Colchester between the Man United game have done. It’s not good enough for us fans to watch that as often as we do. If Villa set themselves up as Sheffield and Colchester the fans will turn even more than now against Hodgson. I think the writing is on the wall and the United game just papered over the inevitable :-(

No change to other home games then. So annoying seeing the away team running back to goal and one of our players getting the ball stuck between their feet or not instinctively looking forward or for a quick pass to intend to try and create a scoring chance.

This is where I thought this season would go. I hope not because I just want us to be successful and play well, and then there’s the upheaval and possible rough patch if a new manager comes in during the season, although you can get a big positive response too.

Villa is going to be interesting now as everyone will be thinking exactly the same thing. Can we only get a result if we hardly have the ball?

The rest should be ashamed of their performances, last time I go to watch a League Cup match if the players can't put in a decent shift. Hennessy was a no hoper with their penalties might not as well been there.

Riedewald was a big part of the problem tonight

Doesn’t know how to play wing back. Kept slowing the game and playing unimaginative balls. Wilf never really got going as a result, although he looked pretty uninterested in any case.

Wickham also dreadful.

Hennessy never saves penalties

No team is going to score goals with Wickham and Benteke up front. Their movement tonight was a joke. Wickham moves even less than Benteke and looks like he needs to lose some bulk.

There were some decent crosses into the box at times but neither showed any desire or anticipation.

In spite of the poor performance and lack of legs in the side for the first hour we still made enough chances to win the game but didn't take them.

McCarthy was absolutely abysmal, Meyer was given a more advanced role but was completely ineffective yet again (granted not helped by the static forwards). Camarasa started the game well but got dragged down the level of the others and ended up playing too deep.

Reidewald was terrible and any idea that he can play left back should be forgotten.

The defence and Hennessey became sloppy playing s*** pit-pat passes across the area and the latter was rubbish in the shootout as well. Went the right way only once and got a good hand it.

Tonight spelled out just how many of the squad aren't good enough.

Just back from the game and he looked assured, was always available for Andros (who was hopeless) and showed some neat touches. Would like to see how he would fare against better opposition.

Ayew showed what he can do and how much he has improved from a year ago. The rest of the team, can't think of much to write home about.

Either this is a windup or you’re his dad.

If Woods was the lad with face mask then he sh@t and I mean real sh@t.

Hope Ward does not get injured otherwise we are screwed.

What a shock. He wanted to leave the club, stays, and gets thrown on with 25 minutes to go in a team who can't get their act together against Colchester. Looked like he got fired up by the Colchester players tonight, adding fuel to the bad attitude he seems to be picking up again. Now you can blame Wilf all you want for that, but at the end of the day the club is bigger than him and it is down to the staff at the club to identify these problems before they happen. We don't seem to be able to do that and we don't seem to able to scout either. What's Mystic Meg up to these days ?

Bit unfair Tom,Woods is a centre back being played out of position this evening. He is definitely not a full back as showed this evening.
