Grossly underwhelming .....
I have to say when I heard that Zaha was staying I was disappointed and I never thought I would say that. A golden opportunity to sell for what appears to be good money and freshen up the side with someone such as Sarr. As it seems it was all smoke and mirrors and through to Aldi closing time. Now RH has the task of trying to motivate Wilf without his toys staying out of the pram. Of course this takes planning which, we are p**s poor at.
As has been said on here today to sign no right back and no centre forward is an utter disgrace.

So the financials .....
Out
AWB. £50m

In
Ayew. £2.5m
McCarthy. £3.0m
Cammy. £1.50m (initial loan fee)
Cahill. Free

Total. £7.0m

Net profit £43.0m

Same ambitions clearly as before....just finish out of the bottom 3!

Happy days for the shareholders and Directors.

It is becomming obvious that Freeman is working with a very low budget and has done well to bring the players he has. My guess is the AWB money went to balance the books in preparation for a sale very soon.
Yes we are short up front, but I can see Roy playing Zaha and either Benteke or Wickham as a front 2. Ward with Kelly as cover at RB. There have been moans about squad depth, which has now has some experience players added.
Its not all doom and gloom, lets see what unfolds during the season.

Positions - weaker or stronger than last season?

Goalkeeping: lost Speroni, replaced with a League 1 outcast, Hennessey and Guita aged (obviously).
WEAKENED

Defence: Naturally I'll point out losing our best defensive prospect perhaps ever. Replaced with dinosaur Cahill. Ward and PVA now alone in their positions, their abilities have been waning for a long time.

WEAKENED

Midfield: Well we got an alright guy on loan and a player who hasn't played more than a handful of games in years. Some equally mediocre players went out.

UNDECIDED

Attack: Well...

To everyone saying it's good that we didn't spend much money - well, we did spend some money, so why wasn't that put towards a striker and right-back? Maybe the deals we did were decent business in themselves, but you have to take context into account - they don't represent a wise allocation of resources for this team.

Was the transfer window really that bad? Any other time we would have been happy with our lot. I think the early Arran move to UTD prompted some unrealistic expectations ... and Wilf's on of move has unsettled a lot of things. There is clearly a hidden agenda, which we may or may not hear off. Rumours will run riot as to what that might be. My feeling is, that providing we can have a reasonable injury free season, this could be a good season for us ... because no-one is expecting it. Take a couple of games for new players to integrate. But as from 3pm tomorrow, my wonderful team Crystal Palace ... Steve Parish, Roy, and all the players will be getting my full support for an up and down season ... and I think their best premiership finish ever.

We haven’t replaced AWB’, ‘we haven’t got a striker’ - correct, but understand what we’ve got, understand that you’ve been duped by Jim White and understand that with a few more performances that are turned into results we will be absolutely fine.

There is no doubt that the Sky machine makes fan feel a little deflated by the end of the window and Talksport (Sky) does exactly the same.
I stand by my earlier post though but do agree that we should be okay this season - I just feel we should be taking a bigger stride forward.
AWB not being replaced is a huge mistake unless there is a loan or youngster coming in shortly - AWB saved us loads of points last year and he will be missed!

That’s new season optimism talking there. Shouldn’t take long to realise the gaping holes in our defence and attack have not been plugged.

Your right, we can't fail with our wonderful strike force, what was it, 2 goals between last season, and who needs a right back anyway.

Agree, we lost one with tons of great potential but no experience whatsoever and gained three with so much experience it can only help the others around them improve their game.

I also think we will be fine.

We wont be setting the world alight but we will manage a mid to low end of the table.

How will we get a loan in? The window is shut, so it is free agents, U23s or nothing now.

Yes, it really was that bad.

The First XI that finished last season is considerably weaker than the one that will start this. (No Wan-Bissaka, no Batshuayi).

We have two centre-forward's. One has scored 3 league goals in two seasons and the other, one FA Cup goal during nearly three years out injured.

Add to that a very unhappy star player in Zaha, and a Captain running down his contract to secure a bumper free transfer signing fee.

We have had a shocker.
