Population growth depends on the fertility rate. That is dependant on a number of factors including prosperity. The UN prediction is understandably optimistic about third world improvements in prosperity but this by no means proper science. The population make up in Europe will be drastically affected because of the disparity between immigrant birth rates and European rates for the reason I have explained. Do you seriously believe that the UN do not understand these things better than you? Like long range weather forecasts they have got a great deal better in recent times. Immigrant birth rates are higher now but will reduce and then match our current levels over a relatively short time. There is plenty of past experiences to indicate that is a very confident prediction. It's also common sense.

It was about wanting to be able to share in the good things. White supremacists are people who are preoccupied with notions of race and racial purity. They're obsessed with paranoid theories about the future. It is about wanting to hoard and stop others from sharing in the good things.

The NRA owns the GOP, and large swathes of Dems too. It’s that simple. Until the NRAs grip over politics is broken, things will never change. If Sandy Hook didn’t do it, another mass slaughter won’t, except if someone can do something more heinous than Sandy Hook I suppose. Moscow Mitch is up for re-election soon, and he is a sniveling coward rat f*** who is scared of the NRA.

Didn’t read the whole thing here but conflating civil rights with white supremacists....? A new low even for this site.

There is plenty to suggest that the guy held left wing, anti-fascist views. There is none to suggest these played any role in his decision to commit mass murder. So because he did not leave a convenient video explaining his actions you just dismiss his obvious fanaticism as a motive. You might want to separate out various aspects of identity politics to suit your position but no one other than White man is ever called a 'supremacist' for sticking up for his own kind.

Yes. hmm... this is pretty textbook white supremacy. White supremacists fear their identity is under attack. They have a paranoid sense of annihilation which they look to blame some minority group for. This is very different to identity politics. Identity politics is about minority groups wanting to live with dignity - it's not about the preservation of their identity, it's about trying to overcome the hatred they endure because of their identity.

No, I dismiss his actions because if, as a left winger, he was planning a politically motivated action it would likely be targeted at right wing targets. In fact his victims were mostly black, and it took place in a night club area. Hardly the most obvious way for a left winger to commit a hate crime! You might want to separate out various aspects of identity politics to suit your position but no one other than White man is ever called a 'supremacist' for sticking up for his own kind. That's because very few people have ever sought to claim supremacy over other races other than a certain type of "white" person. If they did then no doubt they would, deservedly, attract the same label/ Even Donald Trump is using the phrase incorrectly in this particular case if the reports of this guys motives are true. So what? Nothing Trump says ever says anything other than what appears to benefit him at the time he says it.

I can't remember the exact location but didn't a middle aged guy kill about 50 people at a concert with a mixture of weapons. I think he fired from a hotel room window. And that is the largest shooting of this type - presumably anywhere. I don't remember much about getting rid of arms mentioned about it for some reason.

It was in Las Vegas and I was there just a few days after it happened. His motives remain unknown but no political ones appeared likely from all I heard then on the TV coverage. There was though a huge outcry about the need for better gun control. It was centred then on the need to outlaw "bump stocks" which modify a rifle into a semi automatic and was what that gun man used. Trump joined in, but I don't think anything has actually happened. What was unnerving was the sense of normality in Vegas at the time. Apart from the floral tributes at the Vegas sign it all just carried on. As if such things were daily events in the USA, which is almost true.
