Are we any different as it often feels like Steve Parish uses Palace as a PR vehicle
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

One can go through the rest of the PL teams and one hardly hears or sees any of their owners/chairmen.Parish is often in the media and appears to revel in the limelight but one can argue that it is good publicity for the club and keeps us prominent in the public domain.

With most of the other teams it's the manager who does the talking on behalf of the club and not the Chairman. After all who do you want to listen to from Liverpool about their progress in the European Cup - Jurgen Klopp the manager or Billy Stubbins the chairman. We have a very well known manager but his public utterances tend to be along the lines of "I don't know who we are looking at buying" Incidentally I have no idea who the chairman of Liverpool is and couldn't be bothered to look it up

The day Palace become another soulless entity attracting glory hunters (beyond where we are now!) is it for me. 30 years in , and the year we lost the cup final it came home. That would have been the end of the chase. Palace are the Trotters. The fun is the struggle. You are the kind of fan who is happier in the lower leagues on a freezing cold Tuesday night. Fans of a certain age have seen enough of that and are enjoying the current relative success. I'm done with struggling. Bring on the glory.

To quote you Maple 'I smell pee' massive fan base my ass & I supply their NYCMCFC supporters club. I remember them along with Spurs, Sporting Lisbon & NY Red Bulls playing in a four match tournament, they barely had 150/200 fans at Red Bull Arena. Spurs had some where in the region of 10X as many easily 2500/3000. Well, that's definitive then. In truth before their recent success average attendances have tended to be around 40,000, but dropped below 30,000 during their dark days. But they could muster a heck of a lot more during periods of excitement. So a fair bit bigger than us, but not as big as Man Utd.

FYI, when I said 'I smell wee' it was because I thought that the p*ss was being taken, not bullsh*t which would have elicited 'I smell poo'.

I really dislike Man C and Chelsea because, unlike the other clubs at the top, I feel they are what they are thanks to the riches of owners who are using the clubs in part as PR vehicles. So I can't want that for Palace. I think it would feel a little hollow and soulless to succeed that way. A 50,000 bowl stadium with 15,000 tourist fans. God no. That's just not the club I support. Owners who are wealthy enough and smart enough to allow us to build, yes. Oligarchs, sheikhs, princes and potentates: no. The attitude toward this depends on how long you potentially have to live or still care. I'm quite keen on some rather rapid success. It's taken the club over 100 years to achieve a 5 year stay in the top league. How much longer do you want to wait for some glory? Glory hunters? Why would you not want to see a 50k stadium full of supporters? Football is different now. If you want to compete then you have to accept the landscape for what it is.

I have seen far too many games of ours in the lower divisions, in inclement weather as part of a sparse crowd.A world away from where we are at this present juncture and long may it continue.

And the Blackburn game 10 years later, oh the excitement. When we first got to the FA Cup Final, the whole of Croydon and the surrounding area woke up. Wouldn't it be nice to make our area like Newcastle, where it's the entire community pulling together. On the other hand, I do find too many foreign 'customers' kills the atmosphere. We just need to 'aculturate' them, that's all. Everyone has a bit of sarf lundun in them, we just need to draw out that inner self.
