The others are a bit flaky one way or another, we need someone in mid who can convert defence into attack by carrying the ball effectively or releasing it quickly and creatively, that's McCarthy's role and he is a talented player, but the issue of flakiness is raised again due to his injury record, they don't all have to be marquee signings if they fit the particular gap we have in the team, you might not rave about players like Tom Cleverly but they can make a disproportionate difference if they're adding what's missing, that's why Serri from Fulham is interesting. We need both more solidity AND more creativity in midfield, McCarthy could potentially help to provide some of both, how much and how consistently is uncertain though He would have been a very good signing, didn't Wilf comment along those lines after a tweet linking us? Unfortunately I believe he has now been signed by an Italian club

He’s no attacking midfielder or number 10. He’s a bit of both midfielder. That isn’t a priority for us right now, for £10 mil and on no doubt a generous Prem wage. I smell BS anyway.

Between that and the leg break, it accounts for most of the last two seasons. I think many of the games he missed he was fit for, but not in the team. Whether he is right for us I don’t know, but he is a decent player.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

My Everton supporting mate told me that he has been fully fit since February but that has co-incided with Everton hitting form so he was unable to break into a settled midfield

McCarthy may be a bit of a risk because of his injuries but he also may be a bargain if these are behind him. We already know he can play with Mcarthur as they have played together before. we know that he is a very talented and when fit consistent player. He may not be a striker, right back or winger but providing his injuries are behind him then he will add squad depth at reasonable cost

Being reported on Sky Sports transfer Center that we are back in for McCarthy. `PALACE STILL IN FOR McCARTHY Crystal Palace still want to sign James McCarthy from Everton, with talks back on according to Sky Sports News. Having already had one bid rejected, Palace are understood to be trying to restructure a payment schedule. We reported nine days ago that Everton had made a £55m bid for Zaha - and reported eight days ago they had made a second bid including McCarthy and Cenk Tosun. Palace want McCarthy regardless of any potential swap deal involving Zaha.` Suggests to me there is some doubt in us getting Camararsa over the line. Edited by Mwncisee (06 Aug 2019 12.04pm)
