For me Roy has to change his tactics as if you keep doing the same thing you will get the same result. I'm just not sure he can. Zaha and Townsend are best when running at defenders not standing with their back to them as strikers, hoping one of the 4 center midfielders we are playing in a very narrow system can do something different and supply the ball for them to run on to or attack in the box. Zaha attracts 2 or 3 players when coming from a deeper/wider position which opens up space and time for the other players. Roy persists in playing our best two players at running with the ball up top and is making them ineffective. Edited by Boxers (05 Dec 2018 5.51pm) Edited by Boxers (05 Dec 2018 5.51pm)

Personally I think there must be something wrong in our training regime somewhere too. I think we're really missing Sammy Lee, letting him go (I don't know the facts tbh so it may have been unavoidable) was a mistake. I have a worrying feeling that Roy is taking it easy and just working through his last season before retirement (lack of support from the board could also be contributing to this).
You may be right. The only thing that the players seem to be picking up in training at the moment is injuries.

Now equal second with Spiritu Santo in the sack race at 6 / 1; usual t*** is favourite, of course.

I think we have been riding our luck for too long papering over the cracks that are clearly there. We need a major striker and not another cheap unknown gamble. We are way too predictable and far too defensive. We are relying on 2/3 players out of 11 to provide all of our creative flair and that is another reason why we are not causing problems. It was an absolute disgrace last night but after only 10 minutes you could see it coming. We were unable to string more than 3 forward passes together and were constantly giving it away and inviting Brighton to attack us. We made a very average side look good and there was no heart, organisation or ability on show. I pray this is the kick up the backside we needed but sadly I expect pretty much the same formation and tactics and we will get beat again. And as for Zaha, looking at last night I would not be surprised if he has made his mind up and will ask for a transfer in January! This could be a very difficult time for the club and even if we manage to survive again you can almost guarantee it will be the same again next year.

Worked well against burnley, but on the whole doesn't work.

Even when benteke was fit he was playing zaha off him up top, looking isolated and in no way as influential as he should be and as bad as benteke has been converting chances, to be fair to him hodgson has never set us up to play to his strengths. He quite clearly can't get the best out of these players and won't even attempt to change things up. Our wage bill is huge and I can't see there being a substantial amount to spend in January so id get rid of hodgson. Nearly every pundit says palace are too good to go down, that in itself says we have the talent and are under performing. Still think there will be 3 teams worse than us at the end of the season but I'm getting fed up and bored of these meaningless seasons now. Zaha will 100% leaving in the summer. Ask yourself this question. Would you want to honestly watch this football under hodgson without zaha in our team because I wouldn't, it would be abysmal.
