Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (26 Sep 2018 11.57am) Ayew never did pre-season training with Swansea and joined us on deadline day.He has not had much chance with us and perhaps he just needs more game time to recover his sharpness.I appreciate that his overall goal scoring record in the PL is not that impressive but he did score 11 PL goals last season in a struggling team.

Originally posted by Maine Eagle At least RH gave Meyer 30 mins last weekend, rather than the normal 15. Meyer is not exactly setting the world on fire here, but I still think he should be starting for us. Meyer is quality. he has only had limited game time in the prem. What do some of you expect. He needs 90 mins game time on a consistent basis.

Fair comment but do we want him going forward? He is a cheap option loan player and we must sign better, the sooner the better.

I haven't spotted any comments about the ref - Peter Bankes, I believe. How was he? A SAFE pair of hands, or did his performance TELLER different story? Seen better, although to be fair, we managed to get the better of the calls. The Kelly non-call was likely a hand ball that wasn't called (was just outside the penalty area). Also, there was one play where Townsend (ours) was WAY offside, and it wasn't called. Sure it was a deflection to him, but there was no possession, so should have been offside, but wasn't called (he didn't score, but was a great chance).

His close control is generally not good enough for hold up play, but every now and then he does something good, like score at Swansea, or play a nice ball to Andros for the first goal last night. Whoever sanctioned Rakip, Jach, and Sorloth needs to have a long look in the mirror. I am not gonna write off Ayew just yet though, he is still getting up to speed and he is proven in the Premier League. Wilf and Andros up top worked pretty well (mainly) in the past, and if it gets Max Meyer on the pitch I am down with it. Dont forget who our manager is. We only have AWB playing for us now as RH had his hand forced. Same goes for playing 2 wingers up front, although Zaha isnt only a winger anymore I guess. RH is conservative and old school in many ways - expect Sorloth and Ayew to be in the plans if they are fit and available.

He laid off some balls when he could have shot, he made the correct decision to do so but they had winkle pickers on. He works hard, looks up and was hungry. Guitar was very confident and impressive on the crosses; certainly has the edge over Hennessey there. However, Joel Ward switched from Right back to left central defender and was outstanding. He was my MOM and those around me at the game. Put it this way I would replace Sakho with him atm.

Joel Ward had a tidy game, however given that we dominated possession and for large parts our defence was redundant, it is hard to judge. Meyer done OK, but wasn’t a stand out as some suggest. He did OK, but then most did OK. I personally liked a lot of what Sorloth contributed. He had a couple of headed chances which were by no means “Benteke sitters” and thumped a shot towards the end which almost decapitated their defender. I think he knows where the back of the net is, but still needs to work on his positioning. His first touch and lay-offs were much improved, albeit not perfect. Ayew looked a threat in his brief outing as well. So we do have options, albeit nothing as a stand out option up front. I personally would like to go 442 for Bournemouth with Meyer and Macarther playing wide in a narrow 4, with Wilf and Andros up top. I definitely think it’s worth a look.

Hoping that we have new personnel scouting around and consequently a far better Jan window. If Sorloth cannot contribute anything then it definitely doesn't look good. Sorloth looks like his best is hold up/lay off play which he showed on Tues night. Was hoping to see him attack the clear header he had at the back stick a little more in the 1st half. Ayew needs more gametime but may well have the edge at the moment. Meyer has very good close control and his short passing game moving forward is great. Hopefully we can see him threading some longer balls through in the future. Kouyate looked solid as well. Got stuck in and did the basics well. Nice to see Pape given a run out and hoep to see Dann as well soon.

Ward did well in the same role against Swansea as well. Granted it was against weaker oppositions but he might have what it takes to be a decent ball-playing defender.
