I admit an error which is I got my facts mixed on percentages. It was a survey which showed that 40% of Americans thought Jesus would return before 2050.

I also should've put in a note to say that I don't say this to condemn their beliefs. I've met many lovely evangelicals, as I have met many wonderful practicing Muslims, and I myself have come to see most religious people as accepting a compromise between what is said in their holy book and what practice they should undertake. Our belief systems are often hypocritical and we cherry pick freely.

In my opinion, many people who look from the outside and take literally something in a culture different to their own fundamentally misunderstand that culture. Granted, Islamic or Christian doctrine may profess something, but that's because it's written by popes or ayatollahs or brahmins who dedicate their lives to it. Most laypeople you meet just ignore the nuts stuff, try not to get caught when, for instance, masturbating or smoking during ramadan or putting some ham in a sandwich for flavour.

haha. So true. And so bizarre, when the ramifications for not following it properly are so very grave. Casual religion is simply not a thing.

"Serial" when pronounced sounds like surreal- which you are. I never said anything of what your claiming.
I can only summarize, that the recreational or prescription substances you might be using, would be something I would be willing to do.

Provocation, let's see the world conflicts of today.

Muslims v Western ideology/society even though that society is doing its darndest to help and support them.
Muslims v Hindus
Muslims v Jews
Muslims v Christians
Muslims v Bhudists
Muslims v Muslims

I don't know, I can't see a pattern there at all. why don't you tell me whose fault it is.

Less and less. Which in turn is adding fuel to the fire. Last time I checked the headlines in the media and/or in anti-muslim organisations were hardly along the lines of 'let's find a way' and 'we're listening'. Let's be realistic here.

MSM is not to be trusted. That's about as realistic as I can get.

I can't verify if the support is less or less, but I can say we tried

I mean it literally isn't read like that by 99.9% of their 1.5 billion followers but ok.

40% of Americans are evangelicals. That means they believe the Bible is the literal word of God, and should be followed verse for verse. Do the same rules apply to them?

Again. That is largely irrelevant. Religion is a serious business for some but those who wish to use it as a tool of recruitment do not have to be devout and nor do the recruits. It is a banner, a commonality which can be wheeled out by rabble rousers when they feel that circumstances are in their favour.

Do you think all the IRA were devout Catholics?

Written by man, inspired by God. Not god's literal words.

It's very important you understand this because it is a fundamental difference between the religions. I'll state it again, the proportion of Christians who believe the Bible is the 'literal' word of God transcribed by God is very few.

However, that is a fundamental belief of Islam.

It is why you can criticise Christianity or Judiasm wide spread....why you can put on plays with Jesus dressed in a nappy without someone realistically threatening your life.

You made a fundamental mistake is comparing the two religions this way.

The Islamic religion will always contain an activist wing that is a threat to western ideology.

You are have just been fooled otherwise.

I agree with the attempt to broaden the discussion to other religions (they're all culpable to this sort of thing) rather than just one. I also agree with the assertion that the majority of Muslims are not fanatical, although it's probably not 99.9%. Who knows.

Acknowledging the 40% stat as wrong, the point being made here is that look at any religion and the same s*** happens. Same demographics. Same issues.

So I agree with that in principle.

Put down the spiff, wake up and smell the coffee.

I know you won't, you obviously think 'imagine' by Lennon is a political manifesto.....You will probably never understand but I wager that your grandchildren will.

Soooo many character assumptions, polictical framing (this is no surprise, along with the same old tropes trotted out – 'huh huh, it's funny, because the only way I know how to discredit someone once I've run out of things to say is to paint them as a lefty, say that they smoke the spliffs and think imagine is a prophecy huh huh what a snowflake'.

I mean, come on. This is in no way exclusive to you or whatever side you identify with, but once again, no actual response to the debate at hand to be found. Let's keep things on topic shall we, and have a reasoned debate.

I never said fundamentalism didn't exist in islamic faith.

I also never said that it was or was not more or less prevalent in islamic faith.

All I said was, the same issues exist in almost every religion, and that not all muslims are fanatical. As for whether the islamic faith is more violent than others, yes you could quite easily make this assertion, especially these days. My comment was partly with a view to widen the debate a little, more into the realm of religion in general being a pain in the ass. Also partly to prevent this all remaining rather one eyed.

As per usual.

You do realise the thread is called 'Terror attack'.

I'm all for widening out the debate but you can't criticise the focus upon Islamic terror attacks when the vast majority of terror attacks are Islamic.

I've no issues with you starting a general thread on religions, which has nothing to do with terror attacks, and indeed contributing to it.
