Agree with nearly all that is being said. 5 years plus we have been in this league anf we seem to be more strapped for cash than those entering it. Every year from the time we entered from the play offs there has been 1 excuse after the other. There is sooooo much speculation because every window ee are made to wait yo the last minute, only to find out(predicatably) signings fall through. In January we were supposed to be ready for the start of the window, nothing. There is a lack of ambition and respect for the supporters. I have been following Palace for 55yrs and to a point this period is 1 of the most frustrating. What is all this stuff about the next level!!!??? How would ee ever get rrmotely close to the next level with management that excepts entering and finishing a season with 1 striker? Get real SP.

This appears to be a thread devoted to that section of our support characterised by unreasonable expectation. Are we turning into Geordie?

And it's not like we've never had stadium improvements in our history anyway. If we go down, we will have very little to show for it. And actually, with the new stand, things could become very difficult, very quickly. That's where the "5 years in Prem" & "never had it so good" brigade go wrong in their analysis. The fact of the matter is, provided you're above the age of about 20, we've all experienced darker times at Palace. And when older generations act as if the young fans don't have a clue, it's just patronising and demonstrably untrue. It's really not that long ago. At first Parish was great. Since then he's been out of his depth and the only thing he's succeeded in is desperate scrapes for survival. In the first few years, it was bloody brilliant. 5 years in you have to take a step back and wonder how beneficial it actually is for the club long term to keep putting off an inevitability at all costs, in some sort of weird quest to artificially look more successful than ever. Firefighting your way to survival every year doesn't equal progress until the footballing side of your club progresses too. Until that happens, you're just waiting for your luck to run out. We've seen it last season with teams far more established in the PL than us, who failed to recognise the importance of progressing their clubs long-term footballing identity. Are the individuals in our squad stronger than when we first came up? Without a shadow of a doubt. Is the footballing culture of our club any stronger than when we first came up? I don't really think it is at all. The problem with that is if we go down, we lose our best player &, all of a sudden coming straight back up isn't anywhere near as easy as it seems. And in recent times, that has been and still is my biggest fear with Palace going down. All fingers crossed that Roy continues on the positive signs of last season, and we finally do address this properly, as I fear we really don't have many chances left to get it right.
We're the Arthur over ere! |

This is an interesting article and a very frank omission from Hodgson, I can understand that we are still paying for the likes of Sakho and Benteke, but we should have had money put aside for these outstanding transfer fees.

No. Whatever Parish's shortcomings in the transfer market he is well aware that if he sells both without adequate replacements then we are doomed to relegation and he will be the biggest loser if that happens

Let's use a club like Burnley, watford and leicester or even southampton - there summer dealings should be comparable to ours. Thing is, we are in the prem for the 6th season - so 4 good years of money being pumped into our club. We should not be in this position. umpteen managers, high wage bill, struggling to find identity up until Roy came in - well there is one main guy at the head of all this - parish. He's a businessman, and a lot of people know or assume that to be successful in business, you need to be ruthless - parish isn't a hero, he had the capital and he bought us - it's simple. He hasn't gone out of pocket, he hasn't remortgaged his home, he hasn't spent the years eating from asda or driving his mum's corsa to help make ends meet. He knew what he was getting in to, fact is, he doesn't know how to run a football club, ofcourse the grass isn't greener as there are chairman like him just as bad, but there are also some very good chairmen that he could take a look at. Do i wanan see my chairman doing karaoke in some bar one summer, then off to russia the next whilst blokes are working double shifts to make the game on saturday - come on. I would suggest that he has done a better job than our previous chairmen.

You have a rose tinted view of how a chairman should act. When he communicates with the fans far more than any previous chairmen have, but he gets criticized for it, so why bother. When he makes daft comments about whether or not the sun will rise on the following day it's hardly surprising that he gets criticized.

I am sure we will never be privy to what is going on but something is NOT quite right is it? Late accounts, why would this be then? Restrictions on incoming players? We have been firefighting for 3 seasons and had to spend big with SA to survive, none of this makes sense as we now allegedly have no funds? Just hope RH says to steady the ship as I would just love a stress free season as I'm sure we all would. I really am not setting the bar too high and DO NOT want high profile exits just a bit of PL stability. COYP

Totally agree with what you say Painter, I personally don’t have a bad word to say about SP he is the best Chairman this club has ever had and people quickly forget what he has done for this club, Even from the early 1960’s there always seems to be something happening in the back ground with CPFC. Maybe there is a Huge financial reconstruction going on within the club regarding the new stand.

There is no doubting that he has been the best Chairman we have had and he has Palace running through his blood, no doubting that at all. But something is not right and we have dodged a bullet for 3 seasons now and been lucky, this might not be the case this coming
