Wasn’t there rumors in Jan that Pep was thinking of making a bid for him?

He’s the one play I fear may get more interest than we can say no too.

Could def do a job for City if he carried on the end of season form he showed for us.

Personally I’d rather keep him even if a stupid offer came in. He’s really seems to have taken to Palace but wouldn’t blame him if he got his head turned.

Agree, if we need to balance the books we might find it hard to turn down a bid of around £20m from one of the big boys.

But it would be a shame as he’s rapidly turning into one of my favourite palace players. I mean, he’s no Dean Gordon, but he’s doing well.

Whilst we could buy improvements on our players, we have not got the money to do this so we will need to look at where we have been shown to be weak and where squad players may leave.

The obvious one to me is cover for Wilf We did not win a game without him and he will be targeted again next season. Is he to be considered a winger or a striker now? We need at least one extra player for each of these roles.

Benteke had a poor season, no question, but did we play to his strengths? We need crosses going in to his head. Will Wickham be fit etc

Midfield we have lost RLC and may lose Cabaye so at least one replacement needed

Central Defence Delaney retired and Dann longterm injured. We need at least 1 possibly 2 Central Defenders

Goalkeeper We need a third keeper

Right Back if Ward resigns we are fine if not we need a replacement

Left Back We are fine

I THink we need another special winger and hence we being linked with shurlle perhaps? Wilf can now fit into the team with such a player as shurlle as can play striker quite well.

We need another cm. our three played through the pain barriers to stay in the ring this season. So another cm is vital

A right back is essential to either upgrade on ward to compete with obi wan, or ward needs to sign up asap

Hoping to see the Guaita deal finalise soon too

Whilst there is no arguing with the statistic we did manage to throw away winning positions in the 90th minute which you can't put down to the absence of our talisman

Why would Ward resign, he has only a month left on his contract, he would be in breach of his contract and never get another club.

A backup for Wilf is impossible, very few players near his ability would play second fiddle, Sako did a reasonable job, when fit.

It should have been fairly obvious that Palace in the Blood meant re-sign not resign

For me, left back is the position that we are strongest in, so to call this out as an area for improvement is somewhat confusing.

I read your post as suggesting Van Aanholt is mediocre. Far from it, he’s bloody brilliant.
Schlupp is a good backup, better than average for me.
Souare, who knows after injury but he was a good player beforehand.

So we’re well stocked.

You'll note the time of the post..it transpired that from that date he improved greatly..so that leaves us ONE good left back..and very little back up. So i'm confused you see that as an area we're well served. i would however completely agree that we have probably two other areas (mid and keeper) which would take precedence.

I agree that we need another winger...but not to replace Wilf, as I see him being played more centrally more often. On the wing he's easier to isolate and kick out of the game...centrally he's a far harder prospect for def mid's and CB's to deal with.

It happened with Henry...moving from the wing to a more central position...so why not Wilf?

As Midland Eagle said I mean re-sign (that's what auto-correct does)

A backup for Wilf is not impossible in my view it's probably the most important purchase. The fact we couldn't win without him was for a few reasons.

1) His talent and the way he occupies the opposition defence.

2)Our lack of adequate backup from the bench. It is clear the management did not feel under 23 players were ready.

3)A bit of bad luck possibly in conceding late goals

A backup has to be able to adequately cover when other player is absent so may not be close to his ability (we are not Man City and can not afford very expensive bench players). Sako was adequate cover when fit but is long term injured and out of contract.

The 25 man squad is usually 3 keepers, a first team with cover for each position which gives 23 so plus 2 other players. These 2 are often an extra striker or may be utility players or to cover known weakness which may be long term injury or even susceptibility to injury. For example will Dann be in 25 when we start next season probably even though he won't be fit.

We have a number of areas where we don't have adequate cover currently and others with players out of contract potentially leaving increasing the gaps.

This will in my view mean that the management will try to fill these gaps. Upgrading in areas where adequate cover exists will in my view only happen where a bargain can be had eg out of contract or current club need to sell for financial reasons

Turns out it was Japan, and it's what our top 4 earners plus Mutch would be on collectively. £431K per week!
