You say a child needs male/female influence in it's upbringing? If so... why... can you tell me what a female parent offers that a male parent can't... and vice versa? Gender modelling is a massive part. Also your statement kind of brings into question the maternal bond, which is genuinely accepted as a vital part of a healthy upbringing for a child. As for the affect that missing fathers have....seriously? I was raised in a single parent household. Your assertion that gender doesn't matter is surreal to me. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Apr 2018 8.16pm) Gender doesn't matter... a good parent is a good parent... what does their gender add? A man can be compassionate as a female, a man can be gentle and loving, a female can be strict and give boundaries...times are changing... maybe when you were being brought up by 1 parent, times were different... male/female roles were more defined... maybe this clouds your judgement all these years later. I know a lesbian couple that have a child... both great parents... the kid is happy, well balanced and is doing well at school. He isn't missing out one bit by not having a male parent. In years to come.... this will be a non-issue.

I never said that adoption for same sex couple should be banned. I stated a possible problem in certain circumstances that I think should be taken in account. A good same sex couple most probably has good or reasonable family links with role models within them. Your beliefs on the non importance of missing genders completely ignores the statistics on it. Anyway, the detour was fine but it's an impasse, we probably should get back to Robinson. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Apr 2018 8.42pm)

By all means, startup a thread on straight/gay parenting options and let this dialogue continue. To do so in this thread, is Trolling.

How are gay and straight people different? You already know the answer I have no doubts. Point is that the interests of the children are paramount. I believe that gay male couples should be bottom of the list for adoptions with female gay couples as the next worst option. It must be better to have different sex parents in a world where that is the norm. That applies to any majority. Life is always better for them. Oops. Back to TR then. Yikes. The interests of the child are paramount, not the sensibilities of gay couples or some ideal about equality. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (07 Apr 2018 9.55pm)
