I would have thought by 17.00 today in order to register him. And I believe that it is "Sarcasm is a lower form of wit". Oscar Wilde (without checking)

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Is he in the country yet? Can someone post Diego's tweet of him walking out of Beckenham looking desolate. Thanks

The indecision after some 14 days beggars belief.
Do we need gk cover or not???
Just bring him in until the end of the season.
Surely, it's a no brainer although is Steve trying to save on the wages, yet again.
An injury to Hennessey and we are in big trouble.

Roy Hodgson confirms the Eagles are closing in on the signing of Diego Cavalieri

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that the Eagles are close to signing former Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.

However, he says that the Brazilian will not sign in time to be in the squad to face Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

The 35-year-old has been training with the club over the past week, and Hodgson admits that the club are keen to tie up a deal for the Brazilian to sign on a free transfer, at least until the end of the season.

"He has been very good, and has been with us over a week now," said Hodgson at his pre-match press conference.

What Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson said about Diego Cavalieri when he was Liverpool manager
"He was released from his club Fluminese and we invited him to come over and do some training with us to see how he was and how he likes us and I am hoping we will reach an agreement with him.

Injury scare for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Crystal Palace clash on Sunday
"[Sporting director] Doug Freedman and [chairman] Steve Parish have been working very hard to get that agreement with him to at least keep him here until at least the end of the season and help us out in that way, and I believe they are well advanced in those discussions, but unfortunately not so far advanced that we will have him with us on Sunday."

It could of course be Cavalieri's indecision. The guy has been back in Brazil for 7 years and may have family issues to consider. He may want a longer deal than we are prepared to offer him as a 35 year old. Or he may believe that acceptance of a contract with Palace will compromise his position in his contract dispute with Fluminense.

From Brazil: Diego Cavalieri says he’s not joining Crystal Palace, has a go at newspaper
By Lucas Sposito - 23rd February 2018

Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri has denied the rumours which said he’s close to joining Crystal Palace.

Despite several stories from different outlets saying the player is in advanced negotiations to sign for the London side, the 35-year-old was quite firm on turning down the speculation.

Cavalieri was interviewed by the Fluminense fansite Netflu this Friday, and in a short quote, made sure to say the rumours are all false.

“I had been in England ten years ago. This English newspaper reports a lot of false information. I wanted to know where they got the news from.”

When he says ‘English newspaper’, Netflu puts The Mirror in parenthesis, so the outlet was probably mentioned in the question.

Netflu tried to insist by asking him about facing great teams like Manchester City, but Cavalieri continued turning down the Crystal Palace possibility.

“Impossible. I still have my thing with Fluminense. Nothing is solved. The only clash I have is against Fluminense (laughs).”

As the goalkeeper hasn’t been speaking to the press lately, he still left a message for his fans: “Tell my fans I’m fine. I’m enjoying my son.”

The player’s fight against Fluminense is because despite being released at the start of the year, he still hasn’t reached a financial agreement with the Brazilian club. Theoretically he’s free to sign for any other side, but apparently he’s not in a hurry as long as things don’t get settled.

It’s worth recalling that The Mirror is not the only outlet reporting the negotiations. Sky Sports, Globo Esporte and UOL are other sources claiming it.

It’s possible Cavalieri’s comments are aimed at Fluminense and may be tactical.

Roy Hodgson confirmed on Friday that Cavalieri has been at Crystal Palace, so unless it’s an impostor, the goalkeeper’s comments could be more aimed at his dispute in Brazil.

Supposedly only today reached a financial agreement with his Brazilian club.
He is now free to sign with whoever.... if you can believe anything in the press ....

I know Roy said the deal won’t be done in time for spuds game but if it’s all been green lighted does that mean if he signed before noon tomorrow he’d then be eligible for Sunday ?
