Is that why Amadou was begging with his club to join us on the phone? Strong rumours his club kept upping the price every time we agreed and on the third occasion they tried again and we likely said are u having a laugh so then refused a deal

Wow, what a surprise, someone selling something and trying to get a good deal. When you have 2 keepers that the manager doesn't believe in (let alone 3) you go out and sign a keeper - thats the last window I am talking about. If Parish has presided over another transfer window where we have failed to sign a keeper, it will be the biggest mistake I have seen since the Goldberg days. How are we making the same mistake again? I literally cannot believe it. How difficult is it, once the selling club have stated a price they’re willing to except, to stipulate a timeframe before we, the buying club walk away with our money & offer, moving on to another target? Instead we dick about (or allow ourselves to be) until the last minute, being forced to meet over inflated prices, or deciding we won’t be held to ransom & walk away, leaving the same hole in our squad.

The challenge is players need to be available (club willing to sell), better than we already have, affordable to Palace and want to come here. Often selling clubs will delay decisions until late in the window, hoping for a higher offer, or waiting to ensure they have a suitable replacement. You talk sense! You do know that this is the board for unreflective knicker-twisting right?

Niasse was our plan b though after the Babacar thing failed to materialise (again). Sorry, but your comment was that his deal fell through last minute, “nobody knows why” - I simply pointed out that we do. If that’s ‘spectacularly missing the point’ then you’ve not typed what you’re trying to say. The fact he was there at the last knockings is because they were holding out for a bigger club - possibly due to SSN linking him to loads. Debating what happened with Niasse doesn’t do much good, and the fact remains that until everyone in the room sits down and goes on the record as to what happened, it’s not confirmed. Let me type what I am trying to say. Not signing a goalkeeper last window was pretty terrible from Parish and co, but not signing one this time around is absolutely criminal. The manager went on the record several times about the need for a goalie, as you need 3 - some might say that’s code for “I don’t like the 2 I have”. I cannot comprehend how Parish and co could go into this window, and not come out of it having signed a goalkeeper, it is beyond belief. It is very, very poor to not have got a keeper in during the last 2 windows. I wish we would not see this kind of poor performance from Parish but it happens time and again with transfers and managers. Oh and the OP has it wrong, its not Parish's ego which is the problem, its that he is god awful at transfers and hiring and managing managers - 2 kind of important areas. The young striker plays for Norway. Our new centre back plays for Poland. Our new midfielder plays for the Sweden U-20's. We have just recruited young players who can be with us for years. I feel like we collectively voice our angst every window and tend to forget about such players as Milivojevic and MacArthur coming in as underrated players and becoming such positive additions. The only way we'll understand this window is to wait and watch. I wasn't being critical. I was just commenting on how a lot of supporters will view the signings of what they will deem 'Unknown' players from lesser leagues. As opposed to other clubs in a relegation battle who have signed established players. Time will tell if the 'Window' was good or bad I suppose.Hodgson talked about more additions than we have actually got and we missed some of our targets. This is very disappointing. As I have mentioned before this whole transfer business in a 'Window' can be very complex, frustrating and convoluted and often supporters jump to conclusions which are far detached from the reality.Kindly NOT heap blame on Parish, Freedman etc without knowing all the facts. This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sums up this transfer window' by Midlands Eagle A bit of perspective guys: This was NEVER going to be a window to make a big signing in but a window to address our major problem - which we have had since being in the Premier League albeit for different reasons - which is squad depth and cover. Signing 3 players and losing none improves this and this compares well to other teams in the league. However, these are unknowns and we remain - quite amazingly - short of a GK for the second window running. But we finally have a second striker which solves the other major squad depth issue. There was no way we would have made a £30million signing having made a couple in the last few windows so I don't know what people were expecting... So: it was disappointing in some ways, a relief in others, but not an absolute f***ing disaster. Is the squad better than it was a few weeks ago? Yes. Is it as good as we had perhaps hoped? maybe not. Was January a good month in terms of results? Yeah, 7 points from 4 league games is not at all bad. Please just take a breather and focus on who we signed and not who we ended up not signing (the Amadou and GK deals were not our fault it seems anyway).

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sums up this transfer window' by Midlands Eagle It's a shame to miss out on Amadou but really, I have no idea why we were in for another CB/CDM when it's attacking players we're desperately short of. Right now, our fit attacking players are Benteke, Sorloth, Wilf and Townsend. That's it. Not even Kaikai now that we've loaned him out. RLC, Sako, Wickham, even Puncheon - all long-term injuries. We are in trouble.

We are in trouble. In my humble estimation we need another central midfielder as we only really have Milivojevic,Cabaye and McArthur in this postion and Cabaye doesn't have the legs and the energy required any more.Yes we signed Rakip but I am not sure he quite fits the bill in this respect. The other day I was in conversation with a chap and we talked about Andy King and Didier Ndong and I note that both have gone out on Loan to Swansea and Watford respectively - we couldn't sign them on 'Loan' anyway as we already have 2 Loan players from PL Clubs.Just some of the factors which enter the equation. Of course we tried to secure a goalkeeper but this didn't work out and some other targets fell through. Edited by Willo (01 Feb 2018 1.21am)

Mandanda was not signed to be third choice. Why have we failed to replace Hennessey? It’s so blatant that we needed to sign a keeper, even our manager said it many times this month. But we didn’t get it done. That’s not good enough. Swansea and Bournemouth have good goalkeepers that their manager’s are happy with. Underestimating Hennessey is not possible.
Edited by Maine Eagle (01 Feb 2018 12.51am) Agreed Steeeeve was signed to takeover from Wayne got injured and then jacked it in.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Sums up this transfer window' by Midlands Eagle Its so easy to be critical on acquisitions when the "playing field" is so competitive and dynamic, but I will chime in, because I have done M&A all my life... Frankly from the outside this looks like a total shambles. The targets in terms of positions were made so clear by management and so those responsible have failed miserably in meeting the gaps in the squad. Its not rocket science and the positioning of "its all down to the wire" is a complete cop out. I don't think those in charge know how to get deals across the line. Deal making is strategic, not jus last minute tactics on a "wing and a prayer". Piss poor stewardship of the club's assets. Agents and clubs must have figured out that CPFC are Championship quality when it comes to talent acquisition! I am so pissed that we couldn't get the basics done properly and our manager was clear from day 1 what needed to be done in this transfer window!
