At least I can speak from a position of authority concerning referees decisions having qualified as a referee, been to umpteen referees meetings and spoken to a number of senior referees. Accordingly I try and give a referees perspective about decisions made and try to offer possible explanations regarding controversial incidents.

Well the rest of us have given some possible explanations for what that idiot got up to yesterday and most of them are a hell of a lot more plausible than yours. Anyway you've basically admitted there that you're a fully paid up member of the referees' union which is why you try to rationalise the most preposterous decisions in ways that frankly make you look like the village idiot. You could describe what you think his thought process was without trying to deny that he performed appallingly poorly. But you don't. I am not a 'Defence lawyer' for any referee either individually or collectirely all I have tried to do is try and see incidents from a referees perspective. Only today I tried to contact a referee who used to officiate in England but is currently abroad and it went through to Voicemail. I left a message so hopefully he will return my call soon and we will discuss the Niasse and Kompany incidents. Finally, at least I can argue my case withour resort to use of the terms "Idiots" "Useless bas...rds" and "Village idiot".

With respect, says somewhat who has trotted out the same vitriol against the referee whilst using terms like "Idiot". As ever I have tried to explain the decisions from a referee's perspective that's all and not acting any defacto 'Defence Lawyer' in the process.
