The irony of what you say is that Parish was listening to Delaney and Kelly, who are two of the worst at retaining possession, and that Luka, one of the better passers of the ball, ended up being dropped. Also, at previous clubs FdB preferred 433, yet persisted with 343 this season, which alienated him from everyone.

Love Roy. Seems calm, kind, level headed. Experienced. No scandal or smut or super injunctions. Croydon connection. Very pleased with this Great - You just know he's going to appear in The Sun tomorrow with a big brown envelope and a couple of ladyboys on each arm. (At least he'll go up in Part Time James' estimations)
You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name. |

It's not really about being 'progressive' or open, it's about having possession which also creates chances. I get what Parish is saying. It's not difficult. For decades we've been relying on luck of the bounce for Wright, Bright, AJ, Clinton etc. There has been some good football here and there but so many times you just know that slightly bigger club has the edge because they have control of the ball, possession and number of chances. That is the way. The more you have of that the safer you will be for the long term. Leicester was a freak. Small clubs surviving is a freak, but they do so playing safety first and then gradually evolving. We could've done that but instead Frank did it in a system that we doomed to fail, and then he had injuries to big players and still did it, as well as making big players like Luka useless and then not picking him at all. It is possible. You need someone who is actually able, patient and going to stick around for 3 windows to build the team to do it. Hopefully more to continue. Good analysis. Its also largely to do with home form, we are now an established PL club and should not be letting the likes of Huddersfield of Burnley dominate possession at home, not if sitting back and countering isn't working..which it hasn't been for quite some time. I think Roy will install a middle ground, he'll set up us to have the ball at home against most teams, without overlooking the space behind we need to explpoit by letting teams come onto us. I'm moderately content, if not overwhelmed by this appointment. Lewington and Dougie to take on from Roy should his methods prove the right fit long term? In an ideal world! Fingers crossed. Welcome Woy!

Listening to Roy in his interview it is impossible not to like him as a person. It is not until after his interview that I thought, this might actually be the right guy for Palace. It is worrying to hear about how poor relations with certain players might have led to the sacking of FdB. The club have a lot of centre backs now with Sakho, Dann, Fosu-Mensa, Tomkins, Riedewald, Delaney and Kelly. I think four is enough so should really get rid of Kelly in Jan and release Delaney next summer. Sako needs to go and I also feel like Chungy is no better than the youth players breaking through so he can go as well. I think Roy will settle the squad down, play to our strengths and potentially do very well for us. Then in Jan sell Kelly, Sako, Chungy and Mutch. Sign a forward or two if Wickham is still out and sign another winger to replace Sako/Chungy.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

The trick is: Be patient for when they can leave/be sold. Don't rock any boats until they do. Don't get frustrated they're around. Just seect them when you really have to. Use the players who you do want. And stop bl00dy renewing their contracts. It was always going to take 2 to 3 windows. That's how long it takes a manager to make his real stamp on a team, not 3 weeks after not even a squad appraisal or a very inept one if there was.

I reckon there were more players relaying their concerns, but it's the less valued players who've been printed in the press. And/or those types of decisions were so obvious it either didn't need to be said or emphasised what was.

I feel sorry for FdB, because he's just taken on jobs that he shouldn't of. Inter and Palace do not have the structure or history of playing the Ajax way. Having said that a good manager sees what the limitations of his players are and plays to their strengths. You shouldn't feel sorry for someone who promised "gradual changes, evolution and results over style" and ripped that up within days of being in the job. He doesn't deserve sympathy. It's risking our status for his self promotion. I said it then and I'm saying it now. We weren't his level and he didn't want to waste time getting to the LFc offer level. He also had his plan for Southampton and them and us have ended up with the man the other should've had. What a strange game Saturday could've been. I think another situation the board wanted to avoid.
