Is it part of the “effective and serious attempts to reduce poverty, improve literacy and the lives of the poorest in Venezuela" that Corbyn said it was important to recognise (rather than unambiguously condemning shooting people in the street).

These should be the goals of all governments, but you can't achieve these through the murder of the opposition.

The army should never be deployed against its own citizens - But yeah when war is declared - its not reasonable to expect those killed by the military to have a full and impartial investigation.

That said, the military should not be used for simple foreign policy benefits, rather as a means of combating genuine security risks and existential threats.

The military deployment in Iraq was as close to a war crime as it gets, not by the military, but by those who engineered a war for their political expediency - I'm looking at you Tony Blair.

That's not correct Tony Blair did everything possible to avoid war which The USA wanted without the UN.

Sadaam was required by UN resolutions to state that he did not have weapons of mass destruction which he repeatedly failed not to do. Why we don't know as in fact he did not have.

All he had to do was send his representative to cross a NY street and say that.

That would have meant the UK not being at war as he had complied with UN resolutions.

If you don't answer a summons you will be presumed guilty that's true for all of us.

Tony Blair is a lawyer it is his training and what he believes in.

Sadaam was a monster but not cunning just stupid.

Tony Blair also accepted intelligence which turned out to be wrong so be careful Prime Ministers of just accepting what MI5 etc. say.

Although you can't do that as they will say they can't jeopardise their secrecy. Nothing like having your cake and eating it is there.

Governments on their own can't achieve these things, you need to encourage and support business to create a successful economy and let market forces work out. The Venezeulan government has done the opposite with predictable results.

Corbyn's wrong not to condemn Maduro. The press are going way overboard as they're running out of stuff to coat Corbyn with.
Where's the palaver in the UK news about other regimes across the world.

The only reason Venezuela is in the public eye is it's a means to bash Corbyn.

No. It's a perfect and timely reminder of how and why his wonky brand of politics always fails and how the left will bend over backward to cling onto its flawed ideology at any cost.

Well people are starving - so civil war must be a risk if the military stop supporing Maduro. Also Cuba may get involved to protect their oil interests.

No its just Corbyn bashing getting quite irritating now.

What would really excite the press and TV is for Jeremy to make 'a sexist remark'.

This is the media dream and in interviews (including with Trump) every possible means employed to divert the subject to something with the slightest possible sexual connotation.

We know you bombed North Korea today but can you clarify what you mean by appearing to look at my legs.

Well I didn't.

Well we are gong to have to zoom on in about that Mr.President....

What's happening in Venezuela isn't socialism.
