What did strike me as a little odd was him going to a pub in South London and then calling people 'cowards' for not turning up... from (if their profiles are correct) Australia, Oxford, middle of nowhere etc.
It's hardly cowardly Gareth old chap - just a bit of a logistical nightmare.

Then at the end he said he'd love to 'come out' as a footballer so he could "challenge every dickhead who sits behind a desk in a shirt and tie" and say "Here I am Bud what are you going to do about it?"

It's a good job he's not making sweeping generalisations about a section of society based on his prejudices!

I still don't see why there is a clamour for footballer to come out. If he did his worst enemy would be the press not supporters on the terraces.

If HOL Radio do get him to come on can I request he has a fight with Jel?
If he doesn't turn up can we make a documentary about what a coward he is?

I think that the idea of the documentary is good. Something needs to be done and tackled regarding it, and it should be seen in the same light as racism, no doubt. I think the way Gareth Thomas and the BBC have gone about it is entirely wrong.

Also, Parchmore, that type of bollocks is what got us into this mess, and you respond with s*** like that? Are you Brighton in disguise or something?

Did you deliberately twist what I said? The poster referred to people burning down their town which was a reference to the 2011 riots and it should have been obvious what part of his post I was referring to.

..and in this brief exchange lies the pitfalls of saying one thing and having it taken out of context to suit another... the original quote was about 'pikeys' burning their town down.. but you chose to ignore that part to suit your stance... which of course you are within your rights to do...as is Bexley.. if it's good for one is good for the other

Totally agree. Gareth's stance was overly aggressive and is likely to turn the Average Joe away from his cause. If you don't turn up to his meeting you're a coward. If you work for the FA you're a "dickhead in a suit".

I suspect, rather like Gazza, he craves the spotlight and constantly needs to feel the centre of attention. When his career finished he needed the next ego boost. This appears to me to be much more about Gareth Thomas than gay footballers' welfare.

Very good post. This is about small fish being bullied by bigger fish with even bigger egos. That's what I find offensive about these GT threads. It really is about him and not homophobia. That's what got my goat up. It's 2017 and we've all been living and working and playing with gays for most of our lives and Palace people have no problems with it. GT is a man that craves the limelight - his star has fallen, and this seems a great way to get back in with the celebs. Good on him for that - but we won't be mugged.

You've missed one small word that makes a huge difference to the meaning.

The original quote was "when the weed sing about us being pikeys (apparently) and burning our town down"

There are two separate references with the first to us being Pikeys and the second and unrelated reference was to our supporters burning down our town which was a reference to the 2011 riots and had nothing to do with Pikeys

The blatant sarcasm of you calling a picture with Gareth Thomas in it "beautiful"? I'm all for a bit of banter on most subjects, but is that really best for what we want our community to be projected as?

Whether you mean it like we've perceived it or not, use a bit of nous and realise ANYTHING you say like that (sarcastic or not) can, and will (if they want to) be construed to mean what they want it to mean.

I do agree with the fact that GT is a fallen star, eager for attention and the limelight.

If he's taken things out of context as has been discussed then I'd suggest a proper complaint is made to the BBC, I'd also suggest contacting the club so the club can review and take any necessary legal action or at least decide if it's required.

IF things have been taken out of context. Also was it a sting? Or did he start the topic himself or he just searched the forums until he stumbled across this thread?

He didnt and gareth thomas isnt to blame either. He was looking for people to interview and certain posters embarassed themselves and rightly got shown up. Nothing was taken out of context some palace fans just are an embarassment and should be ashamed of themselves.

Yes this is what I've found out since my original post.

I absolutely can not believe these posters are still posting on the site. I thought this site had mods, do we really want/need these associated with Palace.

Incredible that they are still here to mock.

The role of the moderator is to ensure that the forum's rules are kept and they are not arbiters of taste.

If people are banned because they have posted something in bad taste then there would be hardly any members left bearing in mind that one man's banter is another man's bad taste

Let's clearl this up once and for all.

Being homophobic is not banter or bad taste.

The should be banned.
