Ok, well he is my age and I use to have a season ticket at Ajax in my younger years and saw a lot of him. As a player he lacked pace but had a superb ability in reading the game. Hence he transferred from left back to central defense. Of course he was in the Ajax team under van Gaal and I think he is heavily influenced by his philosophy.
To be perfectly honest I had and still have doubts about him being compatible with us. In general the Dutch (over)rate possession, and when he took charge of Ajax after Martin Jol left he had them play the ultimate control game. Very much in a way that van Gaal likes too, but unless you have the highest standard of players I think it is hard to combine it with being attractive. He did win several consecutive league's but the way the team played was often criticized as being boring and overly controlling. He usually prefers a 4-3-3 system with the traditional way of Ajax being just that. Wingers with individual class, ability to beat a defender and with a center forward that is smart in movement but not necessarily aimed at aerial threat. In that respect i think he will make the most of Wilf in particular, and I guess he will not need telling where Benteke's main threat is.
Now you can say about us whatever you want, but not that we are an established PL team and have the players to play possession football with a high defensive line. My worry is that he wants to change the whole mentality and philosophy, and unless we combine tany change with RESULTS first and attractive football second I very much doubt the crowd will like it. The acceptance of the ball played wide or backwards in English football is generally not there and frankly I think that is one of the reasons the PL is as popular as it is and one of the reason's I love English football.
He used to be criticized heavily by the Ajax crowd about his trust in some players that in the eyes of the crowd did not perform as well as for his substitutions in general.
On a personal level I think he is a thoroughly decent bloke and breathes football. I just hope he has the ability to adapt to English football without forcing his own ways through to swiftly and persistently.

Fingers crossed it will work out!

There. Problem solved.

Thanks for that, Johan.

I have my own concerns, but after watching Frank's interview, Parish's interview a ns the press conference it's put a few concerns to rest for the Summer and to wait and see who he buys and what he does.

But football managers are stubborn beasts and he hasn't managed in English football. Neither had some already here in England but when it can go wrong it can go badly wrong. Let's hope he and Sammy Lee work well together, it is a long term project, there's small gradual changes and it's gradual over the few windows it'll take.

I think he let something slip when he spoke of 'the 11, 14, 15 players.' I think he might know there's 15 decent to very very good players and the rest are, well, not good enough.

One thing for sure is that de Boer and Parish are taking Palace on a journey they havnt been on before. OK Pardew tried possession football last season, but he didnt have the squad strength in depth needed, and when Souare got injured, there was no one to plug the gap. Thanks to January we have two more left sided defensive players, and the best DM we have had, including Jedi. So the squad is better equipped than its ever been to do something different. Hopefully de Boer will bring through 2 or 3 players from the Palace youth squad, and bring in 2 or 3 talented young players on transfer. What nobody wants obviously is another dally with relegation. I guess as punters all we can do is wish de Boer the very best of luck, cross fingers, and hope it works!

Hi all,
I just want to say why 'Im Glad All Over FDB's appointment' and think we should back our new Manager 120% and why everyone who loves CPFC are in a win, win situation with FDB at the helm.

I for one am not too worried if we get relagated at the end of the season down to the championsip, so long as we still can keep Frank [yes ofcourse I will be very sad].

From all I have read about him he is the kind of character IMHO to seek to redeem himself, dust off, and get back up as soon as possible. We know its going to be a bumpy ride and he said so too in the interview, we dont have the finances. Im hoping, so does Frank!

Agreed in the worst case we will most likely loose CB, WH, Wilf and AT, just for starters and just to keep afloat. But can you think of anyone better in the championship to get us back up here immediatly? I hopefully expect by then, there's already a marked improvement in the training style for the youngsters to acommodate the 4,3,3 philosophy. Both in ball possesion and how to sucessfully fend off and attack defenders. Making the 4,3,3 and its derivative sytems work for us consistantly. FDB has proven track record of delivering that sort of training from the ground up. He has seen our current, relatively meagre facilities and has taken on the job. I can only assume they are at the very least sufficient.

Additionally, because we Have FDB 'a fooballing legend' coaching that philosophy through all the generations of the Acadamy. CPFC are going to get the crop of loan players fromyoung premiership bench warmers. What aspiring youngster wouldnt want to learn from FDB? I'll wager most of the youth in south london and their dads and soccar mums would want their kid to knock on CPFC gates. Our Accadamy youth of today for years to come will be able to say they learned to ply their trade under the wings of FDB.

From that base we may IMHO sooner than some on here predict, then be ready to start to bounce back like a coiled spring on the back of big sales for our future crop of real home grown premiership quality squads.

So please lets all get 120% behind FDB loose the negativity, and show him some proper South London Love and Respect to 'the Man and the Legend'.

IMHO its very unlikely we will get less than 40 points by the end of the season from the players we already have if they can perform more consistantly.

' I personally think we should all start advertising for shares in CPFC while they are cheap, anyone know how I can buy some ? )))'

Sean Dyche?

What negativity?

Isn't saying that you don't mind if we get relegated, negative?

No-one else is talking about getting relegated

Odds against us getting relegated have gone out to 6 / 1 now since the appointment. Now from a factual point of view odds are bollocks, of course, but it does suggest that some folk out there are less optimistic for us than many of us in here are.

Make no mistake, if we were to be relegated, whoever is in charge, it would be a disaster both on and off the pitch. We would have nothing whatsoever to show for five years in the PL; no improvements to our infrastructure at all and the team we've been building would be out of the door faster than wind out of duck's arse. Plus de Boer has no experience of getting a relegated team back up, let alone doing it in the Championship. As has already been pointed out, Dyche is the one with the track record for promotions from the second tier. The bottom line is, if we were to go down you should be "worried", very worried indeed.

Outsiders don't know that we have a secret weapon though as if in the unlikely event that FDB makes a complete Horlicks of it and things are looking shaky by Christmas then that will co-incide with Big Sam being bored witless with all the lazing around in the Spanish sun and eating and drinking and will be ready to come riding back into the gloom of Selhurst Park in Winter to rescue us once again.

Absolutely Dave, if we were relegated we would be asset stripped of all our best players and staff in no time. It would be a disaster

Amazing how discussion boards work - people just cannot stand feeling good for too long. We are all so much happier when we are miserable.

26 June: Palace make their most exciting managerial appointment in a long time.

27-28 June: general positivity.

29 June: people start discussing relegation.

Could we please not do this?
Pre-season hasn't even started.
FDB hasn't even met the players.

If you really must have something to worry about and make you feel miserable, just focus on the mess that Brexit is going to bring to absolutely every aspect of our lives. For example, what is going to happen to EU players? Presumably they will need work permits, like other international players and so will need to meet the same rules. It's not going to be business as usual.

Im sorry if you think that, but I'm not bieng negative. And you are all too happy to pull text out of context of the whole.

Some posters earlier wrote that he will be out by January, if it all goes pear shaped. I disagree and was pointing out the positves from a worst case as the leading line of that specific para starts by saying just that.. and the advantages of sticking by FDB even in the championship.

I am by far more hopefull that The squad and backroom team will hit the ground running and at a fast pace.

P.S. last I checked Dyche does not live in Wiltshire.

I bit OTT methinks as it was just one person who said that he wouldn't mind if Palace were relegated and one person does not a summer make
