If being an egotistical loudmouth were a sacking offence then teaching would be in a much more acute crises than now. And as relative popularity seems such an important factor to you I'm fully expecting you to support the continuing Tory administration after this election.

As I said before, I don't know who Ms Hopkins is or what she said other than what I've read here. Jamie is correct that the term "Final Solution" (Endloesung in German) has a specific historical definition related to the Wansee Protocols concerning the extermination of Jews and other "undesirables" that were promulgated at the Wansee Conference in January 1942. If Ms. Hopkins used the term the best I can say is she was being careless. I can think of three communities that would be highly offended, regardless of political views: Jews, Romany and LGBTQI. I firmly believe in Freedom of Speech. However, I also believe that the utterer has a responsibility for their speech.

It would be interesting to start a list of words and phrases that the easily offended object to. Obviously anything connected to Nazi Germany is out. Perhaps the name Katie Hopkins should be outlawed. 'Solution' is a bit dodgy and 'final'is also suspect. Someone might get upset if they are used too close together like at the beginning and end of a book. Someone said Alan Mullery to me the other day and he's lucky I was having sex with his mother at the time.
